The Replacement Killers , a review by Dragonfire

The Replacement Killers

My Thoughts

I first saw this one a few years ago when I rented the movie.  I decided to pick this one up when I found it fairly cheap.  The plot is rather weak.  The movie is mainly one fight after another.  The fights are done very well and things are entertaining, but this won't appeal to people hoping for a stronger plot or some sort of mystery or suspense.

There is action in almost every scene of the movie in some form.  There are numerous fights and shootings and a few explosions.  The action scenes are done well, though some of them really aren't realistic.  Thanks to all the fights and shootings, there is a lot of violence in the movie.  Characters are hurt or even killed and blood is all over the place at times.  The violence may be too graphic for some people.  John and some of the minor characters are hitmen, so it does make sense for the movie to be more violent.  There isn't any romance added to the movie.  John and Meg eventually get along better, but there is no sex or romance to the relationship.

The character development is about as nonexistent as the plot development.  That is normal for many movies like this, and people probably weren't watching for well developed characters.  The characters of John and Meg end up being somewhat interesting.

The movie works as an entertaining action movie, though some people will be bothered by the weak plot.

I did get a review posted on Epinions.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall, a review by dfmorgan

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Year: 2008
Director: Nicholas Stoller
Cast: Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russell Brand
Overview: Struggling musician Peter Bretter (Jason Segel, Knocked Up, How I Met Your Mother) has spent five long and wonderful years idolising his celebrity girlfriend, television star Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars, Heroes). His perfect world comes crashing down when Sarah suddenly dumps him for 'that guy' (Russell Brand) from that band'. But his plan to leave his troubles behind backfires when he arrives to find his worst nightmare has only just begun!

Watched: 7th Jul. 2010
My Thoughts: I was hoping for a good comedy but find this only mildly amusing. Russell Brand played Russell Brand as Russell Brand, I haven't seen too much of him but what I have caught seems to me to be just the same as what he was doing here. Jason Segel I know even less about, just Knocked Up, but he didn't make me want to be on his side. Kristin Bell and Mila Kunis though gave performances I did enjoy. Some of the other supporting cast I recognised from other films and in varying degrees I liked or disliked them.

My Rating: A mildly amusing 3

"Due South" marathon, a review by Tom

4.07 Mountie Sings the Blues (1998-11-18)
Writer: Paul Haggis (Created By), Gail Collins (Writer), David Cole (Writer)
Director: Larry McLean
Cast: Paul Gross (Constable Benton Fraser), Callum Keith Rennie (Stanley "Ray" Kowalski), Beau Starr (Lt. Harding Welsh), Camilla Scott (Inspector Margaret Thatcher), Tony Craig (Detective Jack Huey), Tom Melissis (Detective Dewey), Ramona Milano (Francesca Vecchio), Gordon Pinsent (Fraser Sr.), Dean McDermott (Constable Turnbull), Michael Hogan (George), Ronnie Hawkins (Muddy Johnson), Shawn Doyle (Dwight Jones), David Keeley (Earl Jeffers), Dan Lett (Carver Dunn), Michelle Wright (Tracy Jenkins), Lynne Deragon (Desk Sergeant), Susan Hamann (MacAfferty), Jamie Williams (Mick), Brad Borbridge (Smith), Justine Campbell (Arlene), Reagan Pasternak (Waitress)

Now that was a fun episode. Also the Turnball courting Francesca is nice.
Even though Gordon Pinsent is in the opening credits, I don't remember seeing him once in this season so far. Though I remember him appearing a lot at the end of this series. So the best episodes should be coming up soon.

Rating:
