Windtalkers, a review by addicted2dvd

Windtalkers
In the brutal World War II Battle of Saipan, Sergeant Jo Enders (Academy Award Winner Nicolas Cage) guards - and ultimately befriends - Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach), a young Navajo trained in the one wartime code never broken by the enemy, the Navajo Code. But if Yahzee shoudl fall into Japanese hands, how far will Enders go to save the military's most powerful secret?

My Thoughts:
This is one of the several I have that I never seen before. But I had always thought the trailer looked good. And I did enjoy this movie quite a bit. I didn't realize until I watched it that this movie was based on a true story. I never personally been much of a fan of Nicolas Cage... but never disliked him either. I do think he did a fine job in this movie. I would definitely recommend this movie... especially if you like war movies.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

The Day Mars Invaded Earth, a review by GSyren

The Day Mars Invaded Earth (024543-104995)
United States 1963 | Released 2015-03-17 on DVD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment
70 minutes | Aspect ratio Anamorphic 2.20:1 | Audio: English Dolby Digital Mono
Directed by Maury Dexter and starring Kent Taylor, Marie Windsor, William Mims, Betty Beall, Lowell Brown

Martian invaders are in the process of making exact doubles of an entire town and then killing the original models. The terrifying facts are discovered by a scientist working at Cape Canaveral who is trying to figure out why a recent Martian probe simply exploded after landing on the Red Planet. He has been in Florida working on the project for so long that his wife in California is about to divorce him. Wanting to save his marriage and see his family, he goes home and suddenly ends up fighting for not only his own life, but for all humanity.

My thoughts about The Day Mars Invaded Earth:
I am a big fan of fifties and sixties science fiction and horror movies, so I was very surprised to find one that had gone totally below my radar.

It's Invasion of the Body Snatchers without any pods, or Invaders from Mars without any martians. In fact, no real monster at all. It's a really low budget movie , so it's a bit surprising that it was filmed in CinemaScope.

The movie is slow but creepy, and it has a twist ending that I did not see coming. The thing that bothered me most about the script is that the characters seem to accept a totally unbelievable situation without any questioning whatever. That's more unbelievable than the the unbelievable situation itself.

The contrived story and the slow pacing drags the movie down, but the surprise ending makes up for it to some extent.
I rate this title

Charmed Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Disc 4:

12. House Call
The Charmed Ones become helplessly self-distructive when the council brings voodoo dolls along on a house call.

My Thoughts:
An enjoyable episode... but I did find it a little on the silly side. The curses that the Witch Doctors put on them just seemed a bit silly to me. But was good for a fun episode.

13. Sand Francisco Dreamin'
Terrifying nightmares come to life when a demon attacks The Charmed Ones with dream dust. The sisters must magically re-enter their nightmares to unmask the symbolic meaning of their dreams.

My Thoughts:
This is a very good episode. It ranks as one of my favorites not only of this season... but of the entire series. I really enjoyed watching the sisters having to deal with their dreams come to life.

14. The Day The Magic Died
At a Summit meeting with the leaders of evil, Phoebe and Paige discover that all magic - both good and bad - has disappeared. Piper needs her sisters' help after she loses her soon-to-be-born baby to the leaders.

My Thoughts:
Another favorite of mine. A huge episode... but of course they were going to make the episode when Piper's baby is born a big one! I thought they handled it very well... like how they made all magic in the world disappear till he was born. Made it show just how special this birth was.

15. Baby's First Demon
Demon kidnappers target Piper's baby for the demonic black market, but when their first attempt fails, the demons use Paige as a pawn to launch an attack on Leo and the baby.

My Thoughts:
This was also a good episode. I actually really enjoyed this whole disc... could it be because of knowing I have gotten past all the Cole episodes? Nah... these are all just good episodes. I liked how the baby learned that when the demon alarm sounds everyone comes running... and took advantage of that knowledge.  Made sense... as we know if a baby learns if they cry and always gets picked up... to just cry all the time. So that kinda fit in this magical show.
