Mystery, Alaska/Do You Believe In Miracles?/Miracle/Slap Shot, a review by Kathy

I had a mini marathon all day yesterday. I usually watch a hockey themed DVD or two around this time of year but I'm getting over bronchitis and did nothing yesterday but watch DVDs.

Overview: " In February of 1980, amidst growing Cold War fears, the U.S. hockey team created an unforgettable moment of national pride when they miraculously beat the Soviets on the ice -- a win selected by Sports Illustrated as the #1 sports moment of the century.

Revisiting Lake Placid twenty-one years later, DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES? takes a look at the team's emotional climb to gold while exploring the tumultuous political and social landscape of the time.

Interviews include U.S. players Jim Craig and Mike Eruzione, coach Herb Brooks, Soviet players Vladislav Tretiak and Boris Mihailov, American hostage Barry Rosen, and broadcaster Al Michaels."

:yahoo: Of course, since this is one of my favorite memories when I was young, I just love this movie.

;D I have only seen the original movie "Slap Shot" and not the second one yet. I enjoyed the first very much. Plus, since there is so much  :drooling: going on in these forums...here's one of my favorites...Paul Newman :P

Writing:Terri Hughes (Writer), Ron Milbauer (Writer)
Length:92 min.
Video:Widescreen 1.85:1
Audio:English: DTS-HD Master Audio: 5.1

Stars:
Devon Sawa as Anton
Seth Green as Mick
Elden Henson as Pnub
Jessica Alba as Molly
Christopher Hart as The Hand

Plot:
Anton Tobias (Devon Sawa, Wild America) is a channel-surfing, junk-food munching, couch potato burn-out who can't control the murderous impulses of his recently possessed hand. With the help of his zombiefied buddies, Mick (Seth Green, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) and Pnub (Elden Henson, The Mighty), Anton's got to stop the rampaging devil appendage before it takes total control of his life and ruins any chance he has with class hottie Molly (Jessica Alba, Never Been Kissed). Vivica A. Fox (Independence Day) and Jack Noseworthy (The Brady Bunch Movie) co-star in this wickedly funny horror comedy.

Extras:
  • Scene Access

My Thoughts:

I found this one to be a fun little comedy horror. The big plus for me has to be the fact that it is an early role for the lovely Jessica Alba. I never been a fan of the whole stoner thing so that took away from it a little for me. But I definitely found it to be worth the time put in to watch it.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 7: Disc 1

1. Lessons
Buffy and Dawn fight off vengeful spirits in the newly rebuilt Sunnydale High.

My Thoughts:
This was a decent start to the new season... not the best of season premieres... but not bad either.

2. Beneath You
A giant worm-like creature begins stalking a young girl. As the gang begin to investigate, they realize it's appearance in Sunnydale may be linked to Anya

My Thoughts:
Once again.... not a great episode... but not bad either. A basic Buffy filler episode.

3. Same Time, Same Place
Buffy, Xander and Dawn are unable to find Willow, who has inadvertently made herself invisible to her friends, and vice versa. Willow's return to Sunnydale is marred further by a demon, Gnarl, who relishes the skin of his victims.

My Thoughts:
This is the first episode of the season I really enjoyed. Willow is back... and once again... magic goes wrong.

4. Help
Novice counselor Buffy begins trying to help the students at Sunnydale High, including Cassie Newton, a girl who predicts her own death.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode... enjoyed it quite a bit. This one had Zachery Ty Bryon (Home Improvement) in it.

Season 7: Disc 2

5. Selfless
After Anya grants a particularly gruesome wish, Buffy feels that she must kill Anya.

My Thoughts:
Once again... a good episode.

6. Him
Dawn and Buffy fall for the school quarterback, whose jacket is enchanted.

My Thoughts:
A decent episode.... though nothing really special... just another basic filler episode.

7. Conversations with Dead People
Buffy chats with a former classmate and current vampire, Dawn is visited by Joyce, and Willow is visited by an imposter pretending to have a message from Tara.

My Thoughts:
Another one I enjoyed... was a really strong episode. I especially enjoyed the segments with Dawn and Joyce.

8. Sleeper
As Dawn and Willow recover from their chaotic night at the Summers house, Buffy probes a series of grisly murders that may be the work of Spike.

My Thoughts:
A good episode... starting to really set up the season long storyline by now.
