San Andreas, a review by GSyren

San Andreas (5-051892-189637)
United States 2015 | Released 2015-10-12 on Bluray from WarnerHome Video
114 minutes | Aspect ratio 2.40:1 | Audio: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, Italian Dolby Digital 5.1, Audio Descriptive Dolby Digital 5.1
Directed by Brad Peyton and starring Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi

After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude 9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter.
But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning. And when they think the worst may be over...it's just getting started.

My thoughts about San Andreas:
Loves: Disaster movies
Likes: The Rock
Dislikes: Illogical scripts
Hates: Overuse of CGI

Let's get the CGI part over with first. I don't hate CGI. However, I hate in-your-face CGI, the kind that screams "Look what we can do!" The kind where they use lots of CGI when just a little would be enough to tell the story. And there are several such moments in this film. But if the action and the acting is good enough I can look past that.

I can also get hung up on illogical details, like - why is the tsunami coming towards the quake zone rather than going away from it? Or - isn't Carla Gugino a bit young to be Alexandra Daddario's mother?

Dwayne Johnson isn't likely to win any Academy Awards, but he works well as an action here. Carla Gugoni and Paul Giamatti are fine. Alexandra Daddario looks
I rate this title

Comic genius Jim Carrey stars with Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman in the entertaining comedy hit of the year that critics are applauding as a "laugh a minute" (Jim Ferguson, FOX-TV). In a life-altering encounter, the Big Guy Upstairs (Freeman) endows Bruce with all of His divine powers and challenges Bruce to take on the big job to see if he can do it any better. Bruce Almighty is the wildly funny comedy featuring "Jim Carrey at his best!" (Leonard Maltin, Hot Ticket)

My Thoughts:
This is a movie I always enjoyed. I have watched it multiple times since I got the DVD... but for some reason this is the first time I seen it in a couple years now. I know Jim Carrey can be hard to take at times... but I seem to always enjoy him... and this one is no exception. Of course Jennifer Aniston is good as well. Catherine Bell plays one of the news anchors. She is of course good as well though her part is a little smaller then I would have liked to of seen. It isn't a small part... but I would have liked to seen more of her. Then there was \Morgan Freeman who played God which I thought was a great choice.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

My PILOT Marathon, a review by Rich

AT HOME WITH THE BRAITHWAITES - FIRST SERIES - EPISODE 1

This has sat on my shelf forever after being purchased for one of my kids viewing, and I never gave it a 2nd glance. On watching the pilot of the series I was pleasantly surprised, a truly original, funny and compelling episode which bodes well for a great comedy series.
Extremely fast-paced direction following this complicated but very believable genuine family, sharp dialogue and a set of main characters blend to create an addictive formula. All of the actors give great opening performances, and Amanda Redman (who I have never rated) is perfectly suited to the role as Alison and you instantly feel an affinity for her circumstances and role in the family.
Recommended as you can pick this up fairly cheaply now.
