The Las Vegas Serial Killer, a review by Jimmy

Title : The Las Vegas Serial Killer (1986)

Overview
A killer is stalking the streets of Las Vegas, a merchant of whose resume in the field of human slaughter is vast and horrifying. On August 31, 1986 Jonathan Klick was released from the Nevada State Penitentiary on a technicality. He arrived in Las Vegas three days later and is responsible for what came to be known as "The Glitter Gulch Holocaust."

My Impression
Personally I like it, but since it's a Ray Dennis Steckler's movie most people will find it boring. This is the sequel of The Hollywood Strangler Meets the Skid Row Slasher my favorite Steckler's movie and the movie isn't that different (except that Carolyn Brandt isn't in this one, since her character was killed in the first part). Pierre Agostino continue his quest to strangle all the dirty woman of Las Vegas while, at the same time, 2 guys are on the pursuit of their dream of becoming the greatest purse snatchers of Vegas. If all this sound exciting listen really well, this isn't the case at all. So why I like that? Because it's Steckler... The film had random stock footage of a parade and of a rodeo, the naration is silly and unnecessary (like The Hollywood Strangler Meets the Skid Row Slasher this film was made to be listen without the narative), the murder aren't bloody at all and most of the girls are attractive.

I haven't found a single one of his film (even the adult one that are really weird) that I haven't like and this one will certainly not be the first one.

Mary and Max., a review by Silence_of_Lambs

Mary and Max.

Summary:
A tale of friendship between two unlikely pen pals: Mary (Toni Collette), a lonely, nine-year-old girl living in the suburbs of Melbourne, and Max (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a forty-four-year old, severely obese man living in New York.

My Thoughts:
I bought this, because it was recommended in this forum ... and well ... it's great!
Starting with the old fashioned "Stop-Motion" over the gorgeous details and the great "Voice-Over"-Cast to the outstanding story, this little masterpiece is simply adorable.
In Germany this was advertised as "Comedy", which it isn't. It's funny, yes, and transports loads of deep black humour and finest irony, but ever so often the laughs get stuck in your throat.
The comment of the best of all possible wives was: "Compared to this "Coraline" was a delightful movie", and she is correct. Even though this movie has it's funny scenes you always see the deep tragedy behind the comedy. In the end there were actually tears rolling from my eyes.
I love it and am glad to have this in my collection.
Thanks to Sophie for this recommendation, this little gem would have otherwise passed completely unnoticed from me.

My Rating: (out of possible 5)

Plot:
After witnessing a horrific demonic murder at the side of a Toronto roadway, private investigator Vicki Nelson finds herself on a collision course with another citizen investigating the case. He is Henry Fitzroy - former Duke of Richmond, cutting-edge graphic novelist and 470-year-old vampire.

To solve the brutal murder, Vicki finds herself collaborating, against her better judgement, with the suave and seductive Fitzroy. The relationship soon progresses beyond a purely professional arrangement, complicating her long term love affair with ex-partner Detective Mike Celluci... and pretty well everything else in her life.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed watching this series, even though most episodes are rather average. But there are some really good ones. My favorite is 5:55, which is a "Groundhog Day" episode (a rather good one at that).
On one hand I am glad that it is only one season, but sadly it ends in a big cliffhanger character-wise for all three main characters.

It doesn't hurt that Christina Cox is hot. I thought it was interesting, to have her character be an ex-cop who dropped out because of her eye condition. She is developing tunnel vision. But sadly they use this handicap very sparingly, except in the first half of the series, where they seem to have it mentioned at least once per episode, but never really be a point in the plot.
Dylan Neal is great as her ex-partner, who must struggle between being sucked into her new world (supernatural crime fighting), and still having to live the life of a regular cop and its responsibilities.
Kyle Schmid does also a great job as the vampire Henry.
