Forces of Nature, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: Forces of Nature Year: 1999 Director: Bronwen Hughes Rating: PG-13 Length: 106 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, English: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround Subtitles: English Stars: Sandra Bullock Ben Affleck Maura Tierney Steve Zahn Blythe Danner Ronny Cox Plot: It's only two days before his wedding when Ben's (Ben Affleck) plane skids out of control, leaving him stranded in New York with no way home to his nervous fiancee in Savannah. Against his better judgment, the reliable groom-to-be hitches a ride with free-spirited traveler Sarah (Sandra Bullock)-setting off the year's most riotous road trip. At first, these two opposites attract nothing but trouble in a sidesplitting series of comic mishaps and unnatural disasters. But an irresistible attraction and the forces of nature threaten to detour them forever in this sexy, whirlwind adventure Jeffrey Lyons (WNBC-TV) declared, "a fun, hip ride"- one you'll never forget. Extras: Scene Access Feature Trailers Deleted Scenes Featurettes Production Notes My Thoughts: I went into this one expecting much of nothing... as I have heard this is one of Sandra Bullock's worst movies. I am actually sitting here kind of surprised by that. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I wonder if some people don't care for it as much because it didn't end the way you would suspect in a romantic comedy. I personally liked that about it. Granted I liked Sandra Bullock's character the best... and I would have probably made the opposite decision... but I do like that it didn't go with the obvious ending. Not many romantic comedies do that. This one is not a laugh out loud funny movie... but it is definitely entertaining and lighthearted. Though going by the people I talked to at least... I am in the minority thinking so. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: Unwatched DVDs on August 6th, 2010) Closer, a review by RichTitle: Closer Runtime:104 Certificate:14A Year:2004 Genres:Drama, Comedy, Romance Plot:A Witty, romantic, and very dangerous love story about chance meetings, instant atttractions, and casual betrayels. CLOSER is director Mike Nichols' critically acclaimed look at four strangers - Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen - with one thing in common: each other Adapted by Patrick Marber from his award-winning stage play. My Review: Oddball story about a quartet of individuals whose lives intertwine. Incredibly foul-mouthed and topic wise graphically sexual, all 4 character leads are totally messed up both sexually and relationship wise. Amazing to see 4 such famous actors in this type of film, but there was something about it, like a trainwreck, where you couldn't stop watching. It jumps around timewise without notice, so at times it is difficult to follow, and by the end of the movie you are left feeling deflated emotionally. Watched once, never again. My Rating (From December Marathons - DISCUSSION AND REVIEW THREAD on December 18th, 2009) Miracles Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdMiracles Marathon 2. The Friendly Skies Paranormal investigators Paul Callan, Alva Keel and Evelyn Santos try to determine why a commercial airplane temporarily disappeared from radar - and why, during those unaccountable moments, the flight's passengers actually experienced their innermost thoughts, fears and fantasies. Guest Stars: Ann Cusack Ashley Edner Christopher Cousins My Thoughts: This is a pretty good episode. But definitely not a favorite. I found it to be a bit on the slow side. Some of the early episodes are a bit hit and miss. This one just happened to be a miss for me. My Rating: (From Miracles Marathon on December 22nd, 2009) |
