Chasing Amy, a review by addicted2dvd

Chasing Amy
Cult comic-book artist Holden (Ben Affleck) falls in love with fellow artist Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams), only to be thwarted by her sexuality, the disdain of his best friend Banky (Jason Lee), and his own misgivings about himself. Filled with Smith's unique ear for dialogue and insight into relationships, 'Chasing Amy' offers a thoughtful, funny look at how perceptions alter lives, and how obsession and self-doubt skew reality.

My Thoughts:
This was actually my first taste of the work of Kevin Smith. So I really went into this one without knowing what to expect. I must say... I enjoyed it... it was a good romantic comedy. I felt he did a great job at creating characters you can care about. There wasn't a main character in this movie that I didn't enjoy watching one way or the other. I definitely think Kevin Smith is one talented man. Without giving the ending away (as I know of at least 1 person that hasn't seen this yet.).. I will say I left this one with mixed feelings. Mixed feelings that actually surprised me. I actually felt both relief and a bit disappointed.. but at the same time it also felt satisfying. It is hard to explain in order for it to sound right... so I would just leave it at... if you haven't done so yet... watch this movie.

Top Gun, a review by DJ Doena

August, 12th

Tom Cruise    ...    Maverick
Kelly McGillis   ...    Charlie
Val Kilmer   ...    Ice
Anthony Edwards   ...    Goose
Tom Skerritt   ...    Viper
Michael Ironside   ...    Jester
Tim Robbins   ...    Merlin
Clarence Gilyard Jr.   ...    Sundown
James Tolkan   ...    Stinger
Meg Ryan   ...    Carole
Adrian Pasdar   ...    Chipper

Synopsis: Lt. "Maverick" Mitchell - a slightly maniac F-14 pilot - and his RIO Lt. "Goose" Bradshaw have been accepted into the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School - more commonly known as "Top Gun". There they will learn the finer arts of aerial dogfighting. That is, if they don't get thrown out due to Maverick's behaviour. And the competition is hard, Top Gun accepts only the best pilots to begin with.

My Opinion: This movie has incredible flying scenes even after all these years. No crappy CGI but real planes flying in real air. And a great soundtrack, too. Ironically I haven't seen that movie that often but I seem to know it by heart due to the many parodies on many scenes of that movie.
And while I recognized Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli in Heroes) at once, it took me a while to recognize Goose as Dr. Greene from ER.
Too bad, that there aren't more good airplane combat movies out there.

Supernatural Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Supernatural: Season 1

EPISODE 3: DEAD IN THE WATER
Is a series of drownings in a Wisconsin lake the work of a vengeful spirit? A young eyewitness, traumatized into silence by the shock he experienced, may have the power to prophesy the next drowning.

Guest Stars:
Amy Acker as Andrea Barr
Daniel Hugh Kelly as Sheriff Jake Devins
Bruce Dawson as Bill Carlton

My Thoughts:
Another good episode. I liked seeing Amy Acker (Fred on Angel). I especially enjoyed seeing her in the bathtub scene!  :P Of course that bathtub scene was good fir other then the obvious reason. This episode has a good story, characters you care about. And I was actually surprised how good Dean was with the young boy. The kid did a good job of acting.... especially considering he had to do his role with virtually no lines. Had to do everything with body language.

My Rating:
