Screamers, a review by Achim
Stars: Peter Weller as Hendricksson Roy Dupuis as Becker Jennifer Rubin as Jessica Andy Lauer as Ace Charles Powell as Ross Plot: After 10 years of devastating warfare on Planet Sirius 6B, a distant mining planet, Commander Joseph Hendricksson (Peter Weller) is assigned to protect his outpost from the New Economic Block. His scientists have created a perfect weapon, designed to destroy all enemy life - a blade wielding, self-replicating race of killing devices known as Screamers. But something has gone wrong - the Screamers continue to evolve without any human guidance, cloning themselves into human form and obliterating all forms of human life. Betrayed by his own political leaders and disgusted by the atrocities of the endless war, Hendricksson decides he must negotiate peace with the enemy. But to do so, he must first destroy the very weapon he helped to create... Screamers! Extras:
My Thoughts: More of a B-movie from the mid-90s. I believe it was overshadowed by some other bigger release that year, which I can't remember what it was (maybe Species...?). However, this film is great on DVD. Good production values (they used an abandoned industrial area which gives it a great look), good acting by Peter Weller (he is very cool in this one!, to bad he never really got very far) and a solid B-movie (read: people we never really heard of) supporting cast. The special effects hold up very well, with only some minor use of CGI, and there is some gore, but not much of it. With only a few rather obvious continuity slips and mostly congruous writing this is good science fiction entertainment.Rating: (From The Movies from Within My Lifetime on July 5th, 2011) Three Stooges: Hoi Polloi, a review by addicted2dvdThe Three Stooges: Hoi Polloi A professor plays Pygmalion to three bumbling garbagemen and tries to turn them into gentlemen. My Thoughts: This one started out kinda average. But it has a strong finish. If you stick with it, it is a fun short. My Rating: (From November Movie Marathon: Classic Comedy Greats on November 4th, 2017) My PILOT Marathon, a review by RichBuffy the Vampire Slayer: Season One 01. Welcome To The Hellmouth Buffy Summers is the Slayer, but after being expelled from her old high school for burning down the gym (it was full of vampires) she just wants to forget about her destiny and be a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She and her mother move from L.A. to Sunnydale, California. A new school, new friends, and a chance to start over. But Sunnydale is on top of a Hellmouth -- a center of mystical convergence that draws evil and demonic forces -- and Buffy soon realizes that she will have to pick up her stakes and holy water in order to save her new friends. Season One brings Buffy into contact with her Watcher, Giles (Head), as well as the support gang who will help her in her quest to combat evil Willow (Hannigan), Xander (Brendon), Cordelia (Carpenter) and the love of her life, Angel (Boreanaz). Lets start by saying I consider this the first ever Buffy episode. I know and have seen the self-funded demo that was made to show the studios what they were getting in 1996, but it was never intended as a pilot episode. I am not a Buffy/Angel type fan I'm afraid, I can see the appeal and the quality which attracts such a devoted following, and there is no escaping the sexual attraction that Gellar emits, in this episode basically wearing a mini-skirt and high leather boots the whole time But the fantasy/vampire/good vs evil background will never be the genre for me, so I will pass and just say this first episode was a good introduction to a series that entertains many.
