DirectorMike Mendez
ActorsGreg Grunberg, Lin Shaye, Ruben Pla, Alexis Peters, Lombardo Boyar
Produced2013 in United States
Runtime85 minutes
AudioEnglish DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1
SubtitlesNone
Overview
My thoughtsThankfully this wasn't the total crap that I feared, but also not as good as I had wished. The CGI is actually pretty good for a B-movie like this. Not perfect, but I've seen a lot worse. Grunberg is quite good, and Boyar is really funny as his sidekick.

One thing that works against the film is that the spider is really creepy when it is (relatively) small, but when it gets enormous it just becomes so unbelievable that it's more silly than scary.

Still, this film is a lot better than most of the crap that comes from SyFy or The Asylum. The blu-ray looks and sounds good, but is lacking in features. A trailer is all we get. If you liked Eight Legged Freaks you'll probably like this one too.

The Patriot, a review by Rich

Title: The Patriot

Runtime:175
Certificate:15
Year:2000
Genres:War, Drama

Plot:In a picture that "has everything you want in an epic" ('Time'), Mel Gibson delivers "a powerful and effective performance" (Roger Ebert) as former war hero Benjamin Martin, who has renounced fighting forever-until the Revolutionary War arrives at his front door.
Faced with the harsh reality of fighting to protect those he loves, Martin takes up arms and commands a brave rebel militia in fierce battles against the well-armed English army, fighting for his family and his young nation's freedom.
My Review:
The Patriot looked remarkable on bluray, the colours are bright and vibrantly add realism to each shot, the contrast is superb, faces and costumes literally jump out of the screen, shadows and dark areas come alive. This attention to detail and work done on this catalogue transfer is as good as I have seen, and makes this release worthwhile purchasing just to highlight to others the benefits of HD viewing.
To really add a cherry on top, the audio is amazing, full use of surroundism is utilised, with bullets whizzing round the room, natures sounds popping out of all speakers, and the cannon fire delivered with whopping bassy realism.
For the film, of course it is a very watchable classic, a bit heavy in terms of its length, but totally absorbing, crisp and professionally directed, with history tweaked a bit for the viewing pleasure. The acting is generally magnificent, with Jason Isaacs being the stand out star for me.
Get this on blu-ray!

Plot:
On a warm, cloudy afternoon, Tomari bursts in on two girls from her class, Hazumu and Yasuna, sharing a tender first kiss. Her heart breaks ... from jealousy.

Hazumu was born a boy, but he certainly doesn't act it. He's sensitive, delicate, and loves gardening. Lucky for him, he grew up with the tomboy Tomari, who is always there to protect him. Despite her own feelings, she pushes Hazumu to confess his love to the elegant Yasuna. After Yasuna rejects him, he retreats into the mountains in despair. So begins the strange series of events that changes him into a her, and earns her the love of both Yasuna and Tomari.

Director: Nobuaki Nakanishi
Cast: Kana Ueda (Hazumu Osaragi (voice)), Yui Horie (Yasuna Kamiizumi (voice)), Yukari Tamura (Tomari Kurusu (voice)), Masumi Asano (Ayuki Mar (voice)), Daisuke Ono (Asuta Soro (voice)), Yuko Mizutani (Namiko Tsuki (voice)), Makoto Yasumura (Hajime Osaragi (voice)), Yuko Nagashima (Kaoru Osaragi (voice)), Ryoko Shintani (Spaceship (voice)), Keiji Fujiwara (Alien (voice)), Asuka Nakase (Female Track Club Member (voice)), Michael Naishtut (Man A (voice)), John Wyckoff (Man B (voice))

An alien spaceship accidentily kills the main protagonist. But they are able to reconstruct him, but they switched the gender.
Now the boy is a girl caught in a love triangle with two other girls. Both of which were in love with him before and now have come to terms with him being a girl.
I really had enjoyed this series. It is well done and handles the matter surprisingly well considering it is a comedy. I also have read the manga and enjoyed that one as well.
