Dolphin Tale, a review by Danae Cassandra

Dolphin Tale
Year of Release: 2011
Directed By: Charles Martin Smith
Starring: Harry Connick Jr, Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble, Kris Kristofferson, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, Morgan Freeman
Genre: Drama, Family

Overview:
In an inspiring story of the bond between animals and humans, a boy named Sawyer discovers an injured dolphin, who is brought to a marine hospital and named Winter. Unfortunately, her injuries cost Winter her tail, without which she may not survive. But with Sawyer's devotion, a marine biologist's (Harry Connick Jr.) and the brilliance of a prosthetist (Morgan Freeman) charged with creating a new tail, Winter may receive a second chance at life.

My Thoughts:
This is a lovely family film, inspired by the true story of the rescue of an injured dolphin. It's very much a feel good movie, with a message of triumph over adversity, and to not give up no matter how hopeless things might seem. Don't give up on yourself, don't give up on your dreams, don't give up on your family.

Don't know why it's rated PG, there's no violence and absolutely nothing offensive. The acting is solid, especially the child actors. I really liked that Sawyer and Hazel are allowed to be children, and that the adults are not portrayed as the enemy. Maybe they don't always understand where the kids are coming from, and maybe they're world-weary when the kids are all optimism, but they're not the villain here. Even the person you think is going to be the villain isn't.

All in all, a warmhearted, uplifting family film, and a solid choice for anyone interested in such things, and any kid who can sit through a 2 hour movie. Recommended.

Bechdel Test: Fail

Overall: 4/5

Benchwarmers, a review by Rich

Benchwarmers

For anyone who's ever been picked on, put down or pushed around, your heroes are here! Rob Schneider, david Spade and Jon Heder star as three older guys who know what it's like to be bullied. After catching some nasty neighbourhood kids picking on a friend's son they strike back by forming a three-man baseball team to challenge the state's best Little Leaguers. Now, cheered on by every nerd, geek and misfit inn town, these underdogs are about to have a field day in this slapstick hit comedy.

Film choice dictated by the company I was in, as normally I wouldn't have viewed this. However I must admit there were quite a good few laughs to be had, farting beef stew into anothers face and projectile vomit jokes are always better when viewing with a crowd and some alcohol intake
it won't test your brain cells or be a pleasure from a cinematography or storyline basis, but just for a few adolescent guffaws it is good value  :D

Veronica Mars Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 1: Disc 6

Episode 21: A Trip to the Dentist
"You want to know how I lost my virginity?" Veronica once asked. "So do I." Determined to discover who drugged and assaulted her at a party months earlier, she sifts through conflicting stories to find the truth.

My Thoughts:
This disc is where it really gets good... These are the 2 episodes where she puts together the 2 season long mysteries. This episode solves the mystery of who drugged and rapped her at that party. It also does a very good job at setting up the final episode of the season. I have never been a fan of Logan... so the Logan/Veronica relationship is something I never liked.

Episode 22: Leave It to Beaver
Sex, lies and videotape. Veronica solves the murder of Lilly Kane, but not without betraying someone she cares for -- and putting her own life at risk.

My Thoughts:
This is it... the final episode of the season... the one with all the answers (well mostly). This was a great episode. I think they did a great job at putting everything together.

Overall Season 1 Thoughts:
OK... I wouldn't try to say that every episode in this series is a winner... but it is damn close to it!  Sure there is some better then others.. but I really can't think of a single episode that I didn't enjoy something about it. This is a great series... a modern day Nancy Drew.  I personally would have liked to seen a few more extras in the set... there is some nice extras but not as much as I would have liked.  But as I said... it is a great series... and I am looking forward to starting season 2 later today.
