Duel, a review by Jon

DUEL (1971)
5 out of 5

Dennis Weaver plays a salesman on his way to a meeting that becomes a terrifying battle of wits with an unseen truck driver.

I have to stick my neck out and say that on the basis of this film, that Steven Spielberg fella is one to watch for the future.  ;)

Before he made a definitive horror film with Jaws, he made this definitive horror film with a real monster [truck] that we could all be scared of. That we never see the driver or understand his motivation makes him even more terrifying. Weaver's salesman is in real, tangible danger and you can feel it right to the end. Such a simple set-up and it works perfectly.

The film amounts to little more than a chase and the tension never lets up. The driving scenes are paced so well; the film matches the cars acceleration to that very memorable conclusion. There's a handful of stunts, but it's mostly a masterclass in editing and staging.

Made for TV, but just so good they released it properly and the rest is history. It's tempting to think everyone has seen this gem by now, but if you haven't run to the shop and buy it. Don't drive... it's too bloody dangerous.

My Thoughts:
This one surprised me. I liked it much better than expected. For one thing I never really liked Kareena Kapoor. But in this movie she was very likable.
Also this movie is finally again a romantic comedy similar to the classic "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" than most of the recent Bollywood movies that I have watched.

Ghost Whisperer Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Disc 5:

17. DEMON CHILD
Melinda encounters a malicious young boy's spirit who is terrorizing his family. She takes on the challenge of helping this troubled child find peace and cross over.

My Thoughts:
This is a great episode... I don't know what it is... but for some reason I really like the episodes that deals with kids on this show. This episode guest stars Lori Loughlin (Becky on Full House).

18. MISS FORTUNE
The bitter ghost of a magician accuses his envious brother of causing his death and covering it up as an accident. It's up to Melinda to facilitate a reconciliation between the brothers.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode... but nothing really special about it. It takes place at a carnival... I think it would have been better if we got to saw more carnie worker ghosts... it didn't seem like they too full advantage of what they could have done with it. But as I said... over-all it was a good episode.

19. FURY
Melinda must assist the ghost of a murdered African-American man find justice. She helps his son overcome his racist views before they are passed on to another generation.

My Thoughts:
Not really one of my favorites... but a decent enough episode.

20. THE VANISHING
A head injury caused by an accident puts Melinda's abilities at risk. She may have permanently lost her gift as she attempts to aid a young girl whose boyfriend has recently passed away.

My Thoughts:
This is an excellent episode. Beyond the single episode storyline... it really starts setting up for the season finale. In this episode Melinda realizes just how important her gift is to her when she thinks she has lost it forever.
