The Lords Of Flatbush, a review by KinkyCyborg

The Lords Of Flatbush

Title:The Lords Of Flatbush
Year: 1974
Director: Stephen Verona, Martin Davidson
Rating: PG
Length: 84 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1, Pan & Scan 1.33:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo
Subtitles: Chinese, English, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Other

Stars:
Perry King
Sylvester Stallone
Henry Winkler (1945)
Paul Mace
Susan Blakely

Plot:
Before "Rocky" was a knock-out, before "the Fonz" was TV's "leader of the pack". two unknown actors named Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler starred in their first major screen roles. Soon they'd rule the box office and the airwaves, but before they were kings, they were THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH.

Clad in blue jeans, black leather jackets and bad attitudes, Stanley (Stallone), Butchey (Winkler), Chico (Perry King) and Wimpy (Paul Mace) are a 1950s Brooklyn "gang" of four cool, sexy rebels. Despite their tough appearance, these boys just want to have fun, but reality - a.k.a. adulthood - rears its ugly head when Stanley's steady informs him they have to get married, and bule collar Chico falls for a beautiful blonde (Susan Blakely) from the right side of the tracks. A high-octane cruise down memory lane. THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH is "immensely appealing, often hilarious, suprisingly touching and superbly acted." (The Hollywood Reporter)

My Thoughts:

Don't light a match near their heads... you'll start a grease fire!!

My wife decided to watch this with me as she always liked watching Happy Days with 'The Fonz'... Henry Winkler looked exactly like the TV character he would portray for many years but really had limited screen time in this film as it followed two parallel stories centered on Sylvester Stallone and Perry King.

It was dated but entertaining, much like an extended episode of Sha-Na-Na with all it's doo-wop music. My favorite line from this one... "Stanley... I'm pregnant. The rubber band didn't work."  :hysterical: I was laughing my ass off.

They don't get much more macho than these slick, rough and tumble 'Lords'. Hell there was so much testosterone exuding from this movie by the time it was over my wife was growing chest hair.

I'm so glad she doesn't read my reviews...  :tomato:

Children of the Corn (2009), a review by addicted2dvd

Children of the Corn (2009/United States)
IMDb |Wikipedia |Trailer |
Anchor Bay Entertainment (United States)
Director:Donald P. Borchers
Writing:Stephen King (1947) (Story By)
Length:92 min.
Video:Widescreen 1.78:1
Audio:English: Dolby TrueHD: 5.1
Subtitles:None

Stars:
Robert Gerdisch as Preacher Boy
Jordan Schmidt as Bloody Knife Boy
David Anders as Burt
Kandyse McClure as Vicky
Remington Jennings as Joseph / Ahaz

Plot:
From Donald P. Borchers comes the resurrection of the most unholy shocker of all: It's 1975 and a young married couple - Vietnam vet Burt (David Anders of "Alias" and "Heroes") and preacher's daughter Vicki (Kandyse McClure of "Battlestar Galactica") - are driving cross-country straight into the heartland of Hell. Here in Gatlin, Nebraska, the town's bloodthirsty children - led by the boy preacher Isaac and his teen enforcer Malachai - have slaughtered all adults by command of He Who Walks Behind The Rows. Now two new Outlanders have arrived...and The Time Of Sacrifice is at hand. Preston Bailey (The Crazies and "Dexter") and Daniel Newman co-star in this brutal and chilling re-imagining of Stephen King's infamous tale, featuring graphic footage not seen in the television broadcast.

My Thoughts:

I found this to be an interesting and enjoyable remake. It is one that was done by the SyFy Channel. So it is a TV Movie... though as they have done with other of their films this has extra scenes giving us a little more gore as well as a little nudity in the blu-ray release. In this one Preston Bailey plays Issac. If you are a Dexter fan that name may sound familiar... he played Cody... Rita's son.

They changed enough in this one to make it worth watching without it feeling too rehashed... but left enough of it the same to show homage to the original. I was sorry to see that in this one we didin't see the kids taken over the town like in the original. In this one when the couple arrives the town has already been taken over... actually showed that it was taken over quite a while before.

Over-all this film is worth the time put in to watch it. While I would say I prefer the orginal... I can see myself watching this one again as well.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch: Season 1 Episode 17: First Kiss
When Harvey and Sabrina finally kiss on Valentine's Day, Harvey's turned into a frog, and Sabrina has to go through a series of tests to turn him back.

A fun episode. I liked the whole test thing they put Sabrina through... was worth a few chuckles.
