Evan Almighty, a review by addicted2dvd

Evan Almighty

My Thoughts:
OK... I am a huge fan of Bruce Almighty... think it is one of Jim Carey's best movies!  So when I first heard that they were doing a sequel with the character Evan I had mixed feelings... was curios and wanted to see it... but bummed there was no Jim Carey. Not that I would know how they could do it with him again... but bummed all the same. Because of this I didn't allow myself to get to hyped about the movie.. but I think that is always a good thing... whenever I am really hyped about a movie I tend to get let down.

So watching this movie I was enjoying it... then I found myself laughing quite a bit. I don't feel it is as good as Bruce Almighty... but do think it was a really good movie. I can now hardly wait till I get in the mood again... and watch it as a double feature along with Bruce Almighty.

The Ballad of Josie, a review by GSyren

TitleThe Ballad of Josie
Year1967
DirectorAndrew V. McLaglen
StarsDoris Day, Peter Graves, George Kennedy, Andy Devine, William Talman
OverviewHOLLYWOOD SWEETHEART DORIS DAY lights up the screen with her timeless sparkle in this light-hearted western.  Upon the death of her husband, feisty rancher Josie is determined to make a success of her sheep farm in smalltown Wyoming, much to the outrage of her male counterparts.  Determined to prove her equality and defend her land, she stirs up a woman's rights riots, and even a little romance along the way.
My thoughtsApparently this is a film that Doris didn't want to make, but one which her husband Martin Melcher signed her up for. Despite this, Doris does a pretty good job, but it's just not a very good script. It seems that the scriptwriters couldn't decide if they were writing a comedy or a straight western, so the result is rather a mish-mash. Their recipe is something like this: Take the standard sheep farmer vs. cattle farmer controversy. Add a good portion of womens lib. Sprinkle with some silly comedy moments. Unfortunately it doesn't come out very well. Not even Peter Graves or George Kennedy can save it from being rather bland.

And talk about unimaginative casting! They've got William Talman playing a district attorney. After being defeated time after time by Perry Mason for nine seasons, couldn't they have given mr. Talman something else for his final movie role? And how about Andy Devine as a judge? Seriously?

This is also one of the few of Doris' movies where she doesn't sign at all. Well, ok, a couple of lines over the end credits, but that doesn't count. Still Doris is the saving grace for this movie. She is the only reason I rate it 3.5 / 5.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: The Complete Second Season marathon, a review by goodguy

2x15 Deset Cantos
Synopsis: The Connors investigate the company town connected to the destroyed factory and find something startling. Weaver searches for a survivor of the explosion.
My Rating:

Quote from: Josh Friedman about this episode:

While I can understand that from both a conceptual and ethical viewpoint, this episode was a bit of a let down after the previous strong run. I would go as far as saying it is the weakest episode of the season.

I liked that Sarah had to face the wife of the guy she shot at the warehouse, but the girl with the obnoxious boyfriend was merly a plot point, not very engaging. Too much X-Files stuff, dead cows and all. The basement confrontation of our unhappy terrorists with the "sleepwalking" townspeople was a nice note, but felt forced all the same.

It is good that Sarah's hunch was proven right, but on first viewing I was a bit worried about the drone thing. Without spoiling anything, let me just say that the worry was unwarranted. The guy Weaver sent to investigate is dead and at least one person and a piece of technology from the warehouse is still around.

A slightly above average episode that clarified a few things and set some plot points in motion, but was rather unsatisfying as far as the characters were concerned.
