1408, a review by addicted2dvd

1408
Based on a story by suspence master Stephen King, '1408' is a gripping "roller-coaster of a head trip" (Owen Gleiberman, 'Entertainment Weekly') that will have you on the edge of your seat. John Cusack delivers "a tour de force performance" (Stephen Faber, 'Hollywood Reporter') as a skeptical writer investigating paranormal events. When he insists on staying in the reportedly haunted room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel against the grave warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson), he discovers the room's deadly secret an evil so powerful, no one has ever survived an hour within its walls. In the tradition of King's 'The Shining' and 'Misery', '1408' is "a psychologically thrilling movie that leaves you gasping in the end" (Desiree Belmarez, 'Denver Post').

My Thoughts:
Wow... I don't know what else to say other then I loved every minute of it. Sure there was some parts that was a little weirder then I would have liked... and some of it was a bit predictable. Especially for someone that watches a load of horror/Haunted house movies as I do. But over all... I enjoyed every second of it. The cast was really good. Johyn Cusack did a great job... but I though Samuel L. Jackson was outstanding. This is one I will definitely be watching again.

GTO: Special, a review by Tom

Title: GTO: Special
Year: 1999
Rating: NR
Length: 92 Min.
Video: Full Frame 1.33:1
Audio: Japanese: Dolby Digital Stereo
Subtitles: Chinese, English, Other

My Thoughts:
This is a TV movie special set after the TV series I reviewed previously. Whereas the TV series is a great example of how to do a good TV live-action adaption of a manga, this TV movie falls short.
Most of the characters from the TV show only have minor guest appearances. Instead Onizuka is sent to another school to subsitute and of course has new students to interact with. But these are only cheap rip-offs of the great cast of the TV show.
On the positive side, you get to see all the characters of the TV show again. But it would have been considerably better, if they would focused more on these.

Tom's Buffy and Angel Marathon, a review by Tom

02. Dead Man's Party (1998-10-06)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Marti Noxon (Writer)
Director: James Whitmore Jr.
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Seth Green (Oz), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Nancy Lenehan (Pat), Armin Shimerman (Principal Snyder), Danny Strong (Jonathan), Jason Hall (Devon), Paul Morgan Stetler (Young Doctor), Chris Garnant (Stoner #1)

An episode I never really liked. Best bit was Giles' reaction in his kitchen after Buffy's return. The zombie story was rather dull.
