Rocketeer, a review by Tom

Title: Rocketeer
Year: 1991
Director: Joe Johnston
Rating: PG
Length: 104 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35
Audio: English: Dolby Digital 5.0, French: Dolby Digital Surround, Italian: Dolby Digital Surround
Subtitles: Dutch, English

Stars:
Bill Campbell
Jennifer Connelly
Alan Arkin
Timothy Dalton
Paul Sorvino

Plot:
In the tradition of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, ROCKETEER is a full-throttle blast of thrills, fun and dazzling special effects. Set in glamorous 1930s Hollywood, it tells the story of Cliff Secord, a down-on-his-luck pilot who stumbles upon an incredible invention - a top secret jetpack that allows him to soar through the skies like a human rocket. But before long, a sinister spy (Timothy Dalton) plots to steal the jetpack, thrusting Cliff into a dangerous mission that ultimately transforms him into an extraordinary hero.

Extras:
Scene Access

My Thoughts:
After recently watching Iron Man, I was thinking it was fitting to watch Rocketeer now. He is like a '30s down-sized Iron Man.
Although this movie is watchable, it is not really something special. Maybe if we would have gotten to see more Rocketeer action. I liked the final confrontation on the zeppelin though.

Kick-Ass, a review by Dragonfire

I finally saw Kick-Ass.  It did take me a little while to get a review done ...had to think on some stuff a bit.

So much more was going on than I expected, starting with the first few minutes.  There are a good amount of surprises throughout the movie that keep it from being predictable.  The story is very entertaining and it works well.  I like how it is a sort of realistic look at what could happen if someone decided to dress up like a superhero.  I like that Dave has to face the consequences of what he decides to do.  I love all the references to other comic books and superheroes that turn up throughout the movie.  Big Daddy does remind me of Batman with the look of his costume and the fact that he has so many weapons.  He may have more than Batman.  Hit-Girl is awesome, though there is something slightly disturbing about an eleven or twelve year old girl being so good at killing.  The cast handles their parts well.  Nicolas Cage is more understated than he has been in many of his other parts and that works perfectly for his character.

There is a lot of graphic violence and I have no doubt that the movie is too violent for some people.  The violence works for the movie given what is going on and it doesn't really seem excessive.  Some people probably won't agree.  Humor turns up every so often though things that characters say and do.  The humor is a bit twisted, which is perfect for the movie.

Overall, the movie is really entertaining and definitely worth watching, though it isn't for everyone.

It's all about family. Brothers, sisters, children, fathers.

One happy pair is expecting triples, about to burst into this world.

The other pair are siblings; she's heavily overweight and struggling with it, and he's Mister Hardbody and an actor playing a stupid role in a mindless sitcom.

And the last one is a man looking for his biological father who left him at the entrance of a firehouse when he was born.

What they do share, is their birthday. Their 36th birthday to be exact. The triplet-father, the twins and the fatherless man. And by the looks of it, the triplets will share their birthday.

I did enjoy the acting, it is an interesting cast and it could be an interesting story, especially after you learn how all the people are connected to one another.

I particularly found it hilarious how Justin Hartley's (Smallville) character was against taking off his shirt in every scene for the sake of being eye-candy. Why did I find that to be funny? Well, because that was basically his job for all his episodes on Smallville. I don't think there was a single episode on that show where he didn't take his shirt off. He was even shirtless in the opening credits. ;)

But in the end the show is going to be a family drama and that's not exactly my favourite TV food. As I said, the story could be interesting, but it's just not a genre that I personally prefer.
