The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Genre: Horror
Director: Tobe Hooper
Rating: R
Length: 1h24
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1:85.1
Audio: English
Subtitles: English and Spanish

Stars:
Marilyn Burns
Allen Danziger
Paul A. Partain
William Vail
Teri McMinn

Plot:
It has been called "grisly," "sick," and "perverse," as well as "raw," "unshakeable," and "the movie that redefined horror." It was attacked by churches, banned by governments, and acclaimed by only the bravest of critics. It stunned audiences worldwide and set a new standard in movie terror forever. In 1974, writer-producer-director Tobe Hooper unleashed this dark, visionary tale about a group of five young friends who face a nightmare of torment at the hands of a depraved Texas clan. Today it remains unequaled as a landmark of outlaw filmmaking and unparalleled in its impact as perhaps the most frightening motion picture ever made.

My Thoughts:
No need to wrote an endless review about this one as it's a classic and everybody had seen it (and probably more than once as me). It's the perfect exemple of what is frightening, you don't need to fill the screen with blood to scare you need an ambiance. An this one sure had this dark ambiance, the dinner scene is the best exemple of a frightening image on the screen (notice how there is almost no blood). Say what you want but Gunnar Hansen is the only actor who got what is the personality of Leatherface. He isn't a big tough scary scary guy, he is a "retard" trapped in a child mind. You see it easilly by exemple in his reactions when the kids came one after another at the house. There are some great acting there whatever we talk about Marilyn Burns, Edwin Neal, Jim Siedow or Paul A. Partain (yes he is highly annoying but this is the point of this character).

Highly recommanded... one of the best horror film ever made.

My Thoughts:

Another trashy movie with piss poor acting and shoddy production.

The movie flipped from one rave to another and tried to sandwich a whodunnit in between. All the characters were so detestable that you didn't care who committed the murders and hoped the rest of them would all die too.

Adam Beach was the only name attached to this sham. He was ok, and perhaps looked to have given a better performance simply by comparison to those of his co-stars (no-stars!).

Waste of time.

Plot:
Comedy takes off when pilots - and estranged brothers - Joe (Timothy Daly) and Brian Hackett (Steven Weber) reunite to run a commuter airline together. On the small island of Nantucket, the Hacketts run with a first-class crew of neighbors and co-workers, including lunch counter manager and childhood friend Helen Chappel (Crystal Bernard). Their rival Roy Biggins (David Schramm) keeps them on their guard, while sharp-tongued ex stewardess Fay (Rebecca Schull) keeps them on their toes. Big-hearted Italian cab driver Antonio (Tony Shalhoub), and eccentric mechanic Lowell (Thomas Haden Church) always keep life around the terminal interesting. This complete 4-disc set comes packed with surprises and proves how Seasons One & Two became such a high-flying success! From friendship and family to romance and rivalry, when it comes to laughs in this hangar, the sky's the limit.

Wings
Season 1.01 Legacy 19.04.1990
Writer: David Angell (Writer), Peter Casey (Writer), David Lee (Writer)
Director: James Burrows
Cast: Timothy Daly (Joe), Steven Weber (Brian), Crystal Bernard (Helen), Thomas Haden Church (Lowell), David Schramm (Roy), Rebecca Schull (Fay), Torrey Hanson (Passenger), Brigitte Kempt (Woman)

This series came to my attention because I read that it has crossovers from Cheers, a series I very much enjoyed watching. I still haven't seen the whole series, because I found it rather average. The pilot is a good introduction though.
