Reefer Madness, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: Reefer Madness Year: 1936 Director: Louis Gasnier Rating: NR Length: 65 Min. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Stereo Subtitles: N/A Stars: Dorothy Short Kenneth Craig Lillian Miles Dave O'Brien Thelma White Plot: Propaganda film that relates the story, as told by high school principal Dr. Carroll to parents at a PTA meeting, of the scourge of marijuana. The tale revolves around Mae and Jack, accomplices in the distribution of marijuana, who manage to entice the local high school kids to stop by Mae's apartment to smoke reefer. The lives of all who are involved with this menace are inevitably shattered. One man becomes so addicted to the killer weed that the guilt over framing a teen for murder causes a judge to order him to be committed for life to a mental hospital! Dr. Carroll closes by advising us to not incur the same tragedy. Extras: Scene Access My Thoughts: This movie also had it's moments... but another one that I just find to be an average movie. Not something I can see myself watching often. Just don't think these movies is my thing. Unfortunately the copy of this movie that I have is in pretty bad shape. The bad video was pretty distracting. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: Multi-Themes on January 15th, 2010) Bridges of Madison County, a review by RichBridges of Madison County Robert Kincaid is a romantic drifter on his way to photograph an historic covered bridge for National Geographic magazine. When he stops at a farmhouse to ask directions, he meets Francesca Johnson, whose passionate nature has long been denied. Their innocent friendship evolves into a tender, torrid and unforgettable four-day affair which they carry in their hearts for the next 24 years. I suffered throuh the first quarter of an hour of this film feeling rather nauseous, it felt just too cosy and romantic. By the end of the film I had a lump in the throat, and thought it was as brilliantly told and delicately handled a film as I've seen in some time. Eastwoods direction is superb, full of precision and deft touches, he truly is masterful at times. The storyline once developed moves along like a smooth flowing stream, it gently rolls over you without ever stopping. Streep is unbelievable, I really have underrated her and this performance was outstanding. The music is so perfect, it literally pulls you inside the film and sweeps you along, with stunning cinematography accompaniment. The only negative were the 2 irritating modern 'siblings' who told the story, but overlookable. An intelligent, insightful film turning a difficult moral dilemna into a moving and at times tear provoking production. Berlin, Berlin Season 1.01 Landflucht Writer: David Safier (Writer) Director: Franziska Meyer Price Cast: Felicitas Woll (Lolle), Sandra Borgmann, Jan Sosniok, Matthias Klimsa, Maverick Quek, Charlotte Schwab, Jürgen Mai, Andi Slawinski, Kai Lentrodt, Alexa Wiegandt, Fabio Beyer, Sandra Keller, Kaspar Eichel This series is often compared to "Mein Leben und ich" (a German TV series I enjoyed watching), but I never saw an episode before. Recently I saw the complete series set cheap on Amazon and decided to take a shot at it. And if the rest of the series is as good as the pilot episode, I won't regret this decision. So far it really is similar to "Mein Leben und ich" (which in turn is based on the US series "My So-Called Life"), except that here the main protagonist isn't a high school girl, but has just finished school and is moving to the big city (Berlin) by herself. So far I only know the main star Felicitas Woll from the movie "Liebe Mauer", which I also enjoyed. Though I learned now, that she also replaced Wolke (the main star in "Mein Leben und ich") in the comedy series "Die Camper", after they exchanged the complete main cast after the first season. Quite fitting. Rating: (From Tom's TV Pilots marathon on August 12th, 2012) |
