Death Race, a review by KinkyCyborgDeath Race Title:Death Race Year: 2008 Director: Paul W.S. Anderson Rating: Unrated Length: 111 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital: 5.1, French: Dolby Digital: 5.1, Commentary: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround Subtitles: English, French, Spanish Stars: Jason Statham Joan Allen Ian McShane Tyrese Gibson Natalie Martinez Plot: Welcome to the Death Race, where hardened convicts and smoking-hot navigators race tricked-out cars in the most twisted spectator sport on Earth! Sentenced to the world's most dangerous prison for a murder he did not commit, Jensen Ames (Jason Statham) has only one chance to get out alive - win the ultimate race to the death. Also starring Tyrese Gibson, Death Race, is a "supercharged, sick and satisfying" (Nathan Lee, The New York Times) ride that will keep you pinned to your seat all the way to its insane, metal-crushing end! Extras: Scene Access Audio Commentary Feature Trailers Featurettes Unrated & Theatrical Version My Thoughts: No random pick tonight. I was in the mood for some mindless action so I went for Death Race. I realized my folly about 10 minutes into the movie... I own the original Death Race 2000 and have never watched it... and really should have before watching the remake. Oh well... I'm not going to try and make this movie out to be anything more than it really is... an action packed display of violence and gore. It requires no thought... just sit back and dodge the shrapnel! Loved it! I thought Joan Allen was perfectly cast as the warden/extreme sport promoter because just about every movie I have watched her in she has played a cross, miserable woman about a friendly as pit viper. She was rather convincing as the warden of Terminal Island, demanding respect and instilling fear. Jason Statham was predictable but so far I have not tired of his mostly one dimensional roles. You know what to expect from one of his movies and most times when I pop one in that's exactly what I'm looking for. What I find interesting is that with the direction that real life reality TV is currently heading in, and this might sound a bit ludicrous, but I could see this type of tv in the future. Reality shows are already pushing the envelope in terms of shock factor, tastefulness and viewer curiosity. What's left to reel the viewers in other than death on TV? It may be years away yet, but guaranteed someone, somewhere will do it. Would you watch? Fortunately I am not a chav so these things do not overly appeal as the sole focus of a film. This movie generally drifted past me with little impact. Jolie, Duvall and Cage were ill-fitting cast members, but the performances of Ribiso and Lindo were on the money. If the film could have changed the leads, introduced humour, and developed the storyline, then it might have worked better. Empty, characterless and at times as cheesy as a mouldy edam **Angelina Jolie mini-marathon (From Riches Random Reviews on August 18th, 2009) Valentine's Day Episode Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdSabrina the Teenage Witch: Season 5 Episode 15: Love Is A Many Complicated Thing Sabrina and a handsome singer named Kevin double date on Valentine's Day with her boss Josh and Morgan. But then Josh and Morgan argue and break up. My Thoughts: Another episode I liked... but not as much as the last one. It was decent... but should have been better. Not as many laughs in this one.
