Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital 1 Subtitles: English Stars: Plot: A POIGNANT, COMIC AND TOTALLY ORIGINAL COMING-OF-AGE STORY ADAPTED FOR THE BBC BY JEANNETTE WINTERSON FROM HER WHITBREAD PRIZE-WINNING NOVEL. Jess is the adopted daughter of a deeply religious woman. Growing up isolated and insulated in the north of England in the 1970's, Jess is told she's part of a larger plan. Her mother keeps her away from "Breeding Grounds" like schools, preferring to train her to spread God's word "to all the heathens in the hot countries." Jess eventually attends school, but continually feels like an outcast due to her religious beliefs. Her small town life changes when she meets Melanie, a beautiful sixteen-year old, and she experiences love at first sight. As the two draw closer, Jess's mother sees the devil at work and determines to exorcise the demons from her daughter. Faced with the ire of Pastor Finch and his congregation, Jess realizes that she must soon decide between following her own heart or the path set out for her by others. Awards: Interviews Scene Access My Thoughts: Overall an okay mini-series. I liked the second episode the best of the three. I didn't enjoy it as much as the later BBC mini series I have reviewed in this thread ("Fingersmith" and "Tipping the Velvet").The old ladies reminded me very much of Monty Python when they are doing their old ladies drag. Especially in the beginning of the first episode Rating: (From Lesbian Movie Marathon on May 14th, 2010) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a review by TomTitle: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Year: 1998 Director: Karan Johar Rating: FSK-6 Length: 177 Min. Extras: Scene Access My Thoughts: An OK film, but so far the weakest Shahrukh Khan movie that I have watched. I liked the second half better than the first half. I didn't like Shahrukh Khan's character in the flashback in the first half of the movie, which plays in the college years of the main characters. I think it is not really obvious why both women fell for him. In the present time, he plays his usual likable guy persona as I know him from the other movies. Kajol did a good portraying both the tomboyish Anjali and later on the more feminine Anjali. This movie is from the same director as Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and the three main stars of this movie all appeared in that one also. During John's experimental space flight, he is sucked into a wormhole and transported to the far reaches of the galaxy. After being dragged aboard a large and strange craft, he is injected with translator microbes giving him the ability to understand what the strange aliens he finds on board are saying to him. At first what he hears is probably not quite what he expected. Using the theory that he was working on back at Earth, he and the others escape their pursers and run to the uncharted territories. An astronaut testing an experimental space craft is catapulted into another dimension in space. Chased by the maniacal leader, John Crichton battles against all the odds to get back to Earth. Again a series purchased for my kids several years ago, I must admit to being pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this premiere. The characters are introduced well and were interesting, the budget looks and feels respectable in terms of production, sets and special effects, and there is a major 'must see next episode' ending to this which will force me to watch more. There were little touches of comedy, a freshness in the writing, and enough differences to other sci-fi series to make it original. Difficult to make a huge judgement on just a pilot, but based on this I am impressed. (From My PILOT Marathon on September 11th, 2009) |
