The Ghost Breakers, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars: Bob Hope as Larry Lawrence Paulette Goddard as Mary Carter Richard Carlson as Geoff Montgomery Paul Lukas as Parada Willie Best as Alex Plot: After intrepid working girl Mary Carter (Paulette Goddard) becomes the new owner of a reputedly haunted mansion located on Black Island near the Cuban coast, a stranger (Anthony Quinn) phones to warn her to stay away from the castle. Undaunted, Mary sets sail for Cuba with a stowaway in her trunk -- wise-cracking Larry Lawrence (Bob Hope), a radio announcer who helps Mary get to the bottom of the voodoo magic, zombies and ghosts that supposedly curse the spooky estate. Extras:
My Thoughts: This one is also more of a suspense/thriller... though not quite are good as the previous one. The story just didn't grab my interest as much. I did still enjoy it. I just prefer "The Cat and the Canary" over this one. Rating: (From November Movie Marathon: Classic Comedy Greats on November 22nd, 2017) Miss Congeniality, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars: Sandra Bullock as Gracie Hart Michael Caine as Victor Melling Benjamin Bratt as Eric Matthews Candice Bergen as Kathy Morningside William Shatner as Stan Fields Ernie Hudson as McDonald Plot: Legs waxed. Lips glossed. Gun ready. Special Agent Gracie Hart is going undercover as a hopeful eager to be the next Miss United States. But Gracie doesn't have a beauty-pageant bone in her body. Sandra Bullock stars as an operative posing as a pageant contestant in order to ferret out a terrorist targeting the event. Michael Caine deliciously plays the frustrated consultant hired to turn Dirty Harriet into a poised beauty. And Benjamin Bratt, Candice Bergen, William Shatner and Ernie Hudson also score points for hilarity in this box-office smash. From big laughs to sly quips, Miss Congeniality hits. Extras:
My Thoughts: I enjoy watching this movie so much that I have now watched this DVD 6 times since I got it. And before that I had a bare bones edition DVD... which I watched who knows how many times. And of course I get teased about this all the time. And yes... I couldn't help but to watch it again. I have seen it so many times though... that this time I decided to watch it with the commentary track on. It has a commentary with Sandra Bullock so I listed to it. Made it more fun after watching it so many times. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Tuesday Mini-Marathon: Happy Birthday Sandra Bullock! on July 27th, 2011) Smallville Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdSeason 5: Disc 4: EPISODE 13: VENGEANCE Clark is in emotional lockdown, but he finds an understanding spirit in the person of a super-powered female vigilante. She, too, has lost a parent. However, something divides them: their attitudes about how to fight crime. My Thoughts: This was a great episode! They showed Clark close to the point of killing before he came to his senses. I loved the look of the Angel of Vengeance! Was an awesome look! EPISODE 14: TOMB Chloe hasn't been herself lately. The ghost of a murder victim possesses the 'Daily Planet' reporter's body in an attempt to find the killer and avenge her death. But that quest puts both Chloe and Lois in grave peril. My Thoughts: Another really good episode. Nothing like a good ghost/possession story for someone that is as big of a horror fan as I am! EPISODE 15: CYBORG Part man. Part machine. Victor Stone, the subject of secret bionic experiments at LuthorCorp, escapes and finds an ally in someone who knows what it's like to be different: CLARK KENT. Also: Lionel comes into possession of a certain secret. My Thoughts: This disc is 3 for 3! Another episode I liked a lot! This one brings Cyborg in. Another of the Justice League comes to Smallville.
