Star Trek: Nemesis, a review by DJ Doena

Star Trek: Nemesis

Patrick Stewart ... Captain Jean-Luc Picard
Jonathan Frakes ... Commander / Captain William T. Riker
Brent Spiner ... Lt. Commander Data / B-4
LeVar Burton ... Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge
Michael Dorn ... Lt. Commander Worf
Marina Sirtis ... Counselor Deanna Troi-Riker
Gates McFadden ... Dr. Beverly Crusher
Tom Hardy ... Praetor Shinzon
Ron Perlman ... The Reman Viceroy
Shannon Cochran ... Senator Tal'aura
Dina Meyer ... Commander Donatra

The Enterprise is on its way to Betazed, to the wedding of Commander Riker and Counselor Troi. Suddenly they receive a rare positronic signature, a signature that is only emitted by androids like Data. On a lonely planet near the Neutral Zone they find B-4 a prototype of Data's architecture. After that they get invited to Romulus by the new leader of the Romulan Empire. But this new Praetor is a surprise.

My opinion:
This entire movie is bullshit. If you count back, Picard wasn't even Captain of the Enterprise when this clone was produced. And even if, according to the movie it would have taken at least 20 years before Shinzon could have become ready for use. In this time anything could have happend to Picard. But even if: The Romulans are one of the if not even the most paranoid races in this galaxy. And they get  duped by a bunch of Remans (a race we hear of for the first time), they are able to build the greatest battle cruiser of all times and they manage to wipe out the entire romulan senate (that BTW had the size of the editorial staff of a student magazine)? And then this Shinzon accidentally finds another prototype of Dr. Soong's.
I won't even start with the ramming maneuvre or Admiral(!) Janeway.

My Thoughts:
I have watched the film two or three times through my school years and not since then. I was very surprised to find that it was much better than I remembered it (and I already remembered it to be a good film). At its core the film is still based on Hitchcock's favorite theme, the "wrong man", he did well in avoiding just doing more of the same and playing some interesting riffs on what he would have usually done earlier in his career. The main protagonist is far from the likable "man next door" who gets mixed up in some criminal plot, the plot is not just about being wrongly accused and then getting out of it and through the last third the theme actually shifts away

I very much enjoyed how detailed it was described how poor Richard Blaney got deeper and deeper into the mess, even through events that had happened 2 years earlier! It looks like Hitchcock had great fun putting all that on screen.

Acting is excellent all through the cast, including smaller bit parts. I enjoyed Barry Foster and Alex McCowen the most.

It can be argued that this is Hitchcock's nastiest film (we had a discussion on this forum whether Hitchcock's films would be much the same today or if he'd make more use of gore himself), by what is shown on screen (e.g. we get to see a rape-murder) but just as well theme (there's not many nice people here). A good portion of that success is due to the decision to work much more on location than before; gone is the fake look of outdoor sets.

Weekend Movie Marathon: TV Show Reunion Movies, a review by addicted2dvd

A Very Brady Christmas
Mike and Carol Brady decide to spend their savings on bringing their kids and relatives in for the holidays, but the kids are having their own problems: Greg (now a doctor) has to make the trip alone since his wife Nora is spending the holidays with her family; Peter is embarrassed to bring his girlfriend home since she is his boss; Bobby is hiding the fact that he dropped out of business grad school to race cars; Marcia's husband, Wally, has been laid off from his job at Tyler Toys; Jan and stuffy husband Phillip are separating; and Cindy is tired of the fact that mom and dad can't respect her as a grown woman. Just another day in the life of the Bradys.

My Thoughts:
I wasn't sure I was quite ready for this reunion movie... especially with it being so far out of season. But when Brittany found out I was doing reunion movies for this weekend's marathon... she really wanted to watch the Brady Bunch ones with me. So we decide to go ahead and do it. As I have said while watching the complete series set... I personally always enjoyed the reunion movies more then the series itself. I can say I have a new appreciation for the series... as I enjoyed it more then I thought I would when I watched it again... but think I still prefer the reunion movies. Some reason I really enjoy seeing the Brady kids all grown up. But I do believe this is the last time I will watch this particular reunion movie till the Holiday season comes!
