Nine to Five, a review by addicted2dvd

Title: Nine to Five
Year: 1980
Director: Colin Higgins
Rating: PG
Length: 110 Min.

Stars:
Jane Fonda
Lily Tomlin
Dolly Parton
Dabney Coleman
Sterling Hayden

Plot:
Frank Hart is a pig. He takes advantage in the grossest manner of the women who work with him. When his three assistants manage to trap him in his own house they assume control of his department and productivity leaps, but just how long can they keep Hart tied up?

My Thoughts:
This is another one I watched on On-Demand. I seen this one years ago when it first came out. I thought I remembered it being a good comedy. But this one didn't work too well for me. While there is some entertaining scenes... there was no real laughs in it for me. This is 2 comedies in a row that I found be no more then average. I don't think this is one I would bother added to my collection at all.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

My Thoughts:
I felt like I needed to take a shower after watching this film.  The only likable character in the whole movie is Steve Dallas (Milner), the jazz player. J.J. Hunsecker (Lancaster) is a gossip columnist who uses his profession as a weapon to build his own power base while destroying some lives and promoting others.  Sidney Falco (Curtis) is a press agent aspiring to be the next J.J. and stooping to any level if it advances that goal, including being lapdog to J.J.  The cops are dirty, other columnists will print lies for a night with a prostitute. Susan Hunsecker is a whimpering baby living with and off her older brother.  There is clearly an abnormal relationship between the two of them, at least as far as J.J. goes.

Done in the classic film noir tradition, this movie is among the best in that genre.  The cinematography reflects the darkness of the theme of the film, while the jazz music provides a great contrast.  The cast did a superb job, with a really well written and believable script.  Susan Harrison was the only weak link, which probably explains why she has only been in one other film, that I know of.

If you want to see the seamy side of the newspaper columnist business, this is a must see.

Sliders Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 4: Disc 5

19. MY BROTHER'S KEEPER

Quinn's body is not his own when the Sliders arrive in a world where his is expected to act as an organ donor for his injured double.

My Thoughts:
This is a very good episode. In this episode Malcolm Jamal Warner (The Cosby Show) gust stars as a clone... where in this world they create clones to harvest for people when transplants are needed.

My Rating:

20. THE CHASM
The serene town of Middletown hides a deadly secret of human sacrifice that threatens to claim Rembrandt and Maggie.

My Thoughts:
Another episode I enjoyed quite a bit. Though I must admit that the ending... what the chasm leads to was a little bit of a let down. But over all... was worth the watch.

My Rating:

21. ROADS TAKEN
An unusual slide forces Quinn and Maggie to prematurely age, and it's up to Rembrandt to find a cure before they are destroyed by life in a "bubble universe."

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode... but not one of my favorites. they try something a little new in this episode... by having their slide (well Quinn and Maggie's stress while in the slide) creating a world.

My Rating:

22. REVELATIONS
An aging sci-fi writer helps Quinn and Colin reunite with their birth parents, but the warm family reunion is not what it seems.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this season finale. Quinn and Colin think they are finally home. I did have one problem with this episode. Every time before when they opened the vortex it was stationary. But this time they open it while being on the top of a moving train... and instead of the vortex staying still and them moving away from it... the vortex followed behind the train to let them jump in. I know... it is a sci-fi show and anything is possible... but it just wasn't being true to all the episodes before it.
