Pushing Tin, a review by Rich

Pushing Tin

In the tradition of 'Grosse Pointe Blank' comes an unconventional comedy about two air traffic controllers whose intense rivalry and penchant for one-upmanship causes hilarious havoc with their careers, their marriages - and the planes in their airspace!
Nick Falzone (John Cusack) is the busiest, and the best, air traffic controller on Long Island - until Russell Bell (Billy Bob Thornton) roars into town like a motorcycle-riding cowboy. Fuelled by caffeine and machismo, the two men embark upon an uproarious contest of wit and wills that can ultimately only have one winner. Co-starring Cate Blanchett and Angelina Jolie, 'Pushing Tin' is "One of a kind... a high-flying, free-spirited, wildly funny blast of originality." (CBS-TV)

Comedy revolving around air traffic controllers which quickly meandered into an uneven tale of male rivalry. Sharp dialogue and some entertaining scenes, including the runway jetstream shot, do not make up for a poorly fitting cast and weak character development. BBT is interesting at first, but his inner being and reasons for his aloof demeanour are never explained fully, Cusack is unsympahetic to the role, and Jolie tries too hard in an undemanding position.
Despite a good opening the film is an anti-climax, the promise of a dramatic finale is lost in a too intense voyage in stress and marital problems.
I cannot recommend this film unless you buy it very cheaply and have a major interest in aircraft controllers!

Elf, a review by Rich

14/12

elf

Will Ferrell makes yet another memorable splash on the big screen in Jon Favreau's sweet and hilarious Christmas fable. Ferrell is Buddy, an innocent figure who was raised as an elf in the North Pole by his adoptive father, Papa Elf (Bob Newhart). When Buddy discovers that he's actually a human being, he heads to New York City to reunite with his biological father. The trouble is that his dad, Walter (James Caan), is a publishing executive who doesn't have time for anything other than work. Buddy moves in with Walter and his family, and proceeds to teach them a lesson or two about what being a family really means. Meanwhile, he also falls head over heels in love with the incredibly cute department store clerk, Jovie (Zooey Deschanel). By the time Christmas Eve rolls around, the general lack of spirit in the air threatens to ground Santa for the big night. He must rely on Buddy's expertise and overall enthusiasm to ensure that Christmas will be saved once again. Favreau's film is family entertainment at its finest, featuring a performance by Ferrell that is at once innocent, tender, and laugh-out-loud funny. A stellar supporting cast--including Caan, Deschanel, Newhart, and Faizon Love--adds to the film's already overabundant charm.

Why do I put myself through this - I let someone else choose a film to watch  :readthis:

Probably the most useless, unfunny, pathetic crap masquerading as a xmas film that I have ever had to endure, This is pure toilet, and should be used as a coaster for christmas

Angel Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Angel: Season 4

13. Salvage
Original Air Date: 3/5/2003
Angel's evil alter ego, who's out of his cage and pursuing the Beast, hits a pool hall packed with vamps to see if he can determine the demon's hideout. Meanwhile, at the hotel, Wes goes about the grisly task of dispatching Lilah's corpse, as Lorne, Fred and Gunn gather ingredients for a protective sanctuary spell. But the gang is all too familiar with the unpredictability of magic, so Wes pays a visit to the incarcerated Faith to try to persuade her to join the team in the race to prevent Armageddon.

Guest Stars:
Stephanie Romanov
Vladimir Kulich
Eliza Dushku

My Thoughts:
And we have yet another excellent episode! It is so good to see Faith again! And I must say... she knows how to make an exit. Her exit escaping from prison was very cool! And wow! what a fight between Faith and The Beast & Angelus. Lots of action packed excitement in this one!

My Rating:
