Godzilla, a review by TomTitle: Godzilla Year: 1998 Director: Roland Emmerich Rating: PG Length: 133 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.40 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Surround , English: Dolby Digital 5.1 , Commentary: Dolby Digital Stereo , German: Dolby Digital 5.1 Subtitles: Commentary, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian, Polish, Swedish, Turkish Stars: Matthew Broderick Jean Reno Maria Pitillo Hank Azaria Kevin Dunn Plot: In the steamy jungles of the South Pacific, an enormous creature is created by nuclear fallout. Lost for decades, the power and the fury of the world's largest monster are about to be unleashed. He's the most spectacular creature in the cinematic history, with a foot the size of a bus, a body as tall as London's Big Ben and the strength and agility the likes of which the world has never seen. The creators of 'Independence Day' are proud to unleash the ultimate in monster movies, 'Godzilla', starring Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno and Hank Azaria. It's true what they say SIZE DOES MATTER Extras: Commentary Featurettes Music Videos Photo Gallery Production Notes Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: I do not know why this movie has such a bad rep. It is a fine movie about a monster trashing New York City. Well done special effects and audio effects.I think it is funny how the American army destroys more of New York than the creature does and they need the help of the French to save the day (maybe a reason it is not liked by American audiences ) I think a big reason for the poor reviews about this movie is, that it was too much hyped beforehand (as a matter of fact I did not watch this movie in the theater because of this). Another reason may be, that the cinema goers had enough about this kind of movie, because it was yet another movie about a big dinosaur -like creature after already two Jurassic Parks. A nice cast of well-known actors (at least to some) is also present: Jean Reno, Matthew Broderick. Three Simpsons cast members (Harry Shearer, Hank Azaria and Nancy Cartwright). The only thing which didn't quite fit is the "nest" of mini-Godzillas. The scene in the Madison Square Garden feels like a rehash of Jurassic Park. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85 Audio: English: Dolby Digital 5.1, German: Dolby Digital 5.1 Subtitles: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish Stars: Bill Murray Richard Dreyfuss Julie Hagerty Charlie Korsmo Kathryn Erbe Plot: Comic superstar Bill Murray ('Ghostbusters', 'Caddyshack') teams up with Academy Award® winner Richard Dreyfuss ('The Goodbye Girl', 'Best Actor', '1977') in the year's most outrageous comedy. Murray plays Bob Wiley, a neurotic but lovable New Yorker who shows up at the vacation home of a pompous doctor named Leo Marvin (Dreyfuss). Bob soon becomes the houseguest who wouldn't leave, endearing himself to the other family members ...and in the end, driving the stressed-out Dr. Marvin absolutely crazy. Moviegoers loved this delightfully zany tale, and you'll find WHAT ABOUT BOB? full of lunacy, laughter and nonstop entertainment. Awards:
Extras: Scene Access My Thoughts: Bill Murray is great as Bob. I feel that Monk has been greatly influenced by this movie. Bob reminds a little of Monk (though Monk is much more reserved). And Monk's doctor reminds me of Richard Dreyfuss's character here. Although Dr. Kroger (Monk's psychiatrist) never has been driven to madness like Leo was here (yet).Rating: (From Tom's Random Reviews on August 23rd, 2009) Tom's TV Pilots marathon, a review by Tom
