The Last Unicorn, a review by Danae CassandraThe Last Unicorn Year of Release: 1982 Directed By: Jules Bass, Arthur Rankin Jr. Starring: Alan Arkin, Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, Tammy Grimes, Robert Klein, Angela Lansbury, Christopher Lee Genre: Fantasy, Musical, Animation Overview:The Last Unicorn will reignite the hearts of its fans and entrance all who enter. My Thoughts: I adore this film. I've loved it since I first saw it as a child and I love it still. Yes, there is a certain nostalgia factor to this, but there are things we love as children that don't hold up as adults (the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon comes to mind). This does. It speaks to me now just as much as it did in the 80's. It has wonderful songs provided by America, and characters that are unique. I love both the tragic love story, and the one that isn't ... and that those who end happily aren't the beautiful people. It's a story of love, heroism, selfishness and sacrifice. It's also pretty true to Beagle's book, which I would highly recommend as well. For me, this is a nigh-perfect film, and a long-time personal favorite. I know it isn't truly a 5-star film, but I don't see it as anything less. Bechdel Test: Pass Mako Mori Test: Pass Overall: 5/5 (From July Movie Marathon: Musicals (Yes... Stars: Seth Rogen as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet Jay Chou as Kato Cameron Diaz as Lenore Case Tom Wilkinson as James Reid Christoph Waltz as Chudnofsky David Harbour as Scanlon Plot: Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is a slacker by day, party animal by night... until he finds a serious career that's seriously cool: crime-fighting action hero. As the Green Hornet, he teams up with gadget wiz and martial arts master Kato (Jay Chou) to take down LA's underworld. Also starring Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz. Extras:
My Thoughts: This is a film been wanting to check out since I first found out it was being made. But this is the first time I got the chance to see it. I never watched the original series this film is based on... or read any comics (was there Green Hornet Comics?)... so I know very little of the mythology of The Green Hornet. But that could work for the better since I have nothing to compare it with I have a better chance of enjoying it... right? After watching it I found there was things I liked and things I didn't like. I thought for the most part it had some great action. And I liked Cameron Diaz as Britt's secretary. As well as thought Kato was just plain cool. As for what I didn't care for.... I didn't like when about to fight the red outline zeroing in on the weapons and people. I felt this took away from my enjoyment some. Then I also thought that most the comedy they tried really didn't work for me either. But over-all I really enjoyed this one... glad I finally got the chance to watch it.My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: The Blu-ray Experience on July 28th, 2013) Firefly Marathon, a review by Tom11. Trash Writer: Ben Edlund (Writer), Jose Molina (Writer) Director: Vern Gillum Cast: Nathan Fillion (Mal), Gina Torres (Zoe), Alan Tudyk (Wash), Morena Baccarin (Inara), Adam Baldwin (Jayne), Jewel Staite (Kaylee), Sean Maher (Simon), Summer Glau (River), Ron Glass (Shepherd Book), Christina Hendricks (Saffron/Bridget/Yolanda), Franc Ross (Monty Reynolds), Dwier Brown (Durran Haymer), John Eric Bentley (Police Sergeant) The story itself is nothing special, but enjoyable. The best parts are when Simon and River are confronting Jayne about Ariel and when Mal acts like it was part of the plan that he lost his clothes. Rating: (From Firefly Marathon on March 8th, 2010) |
