Mary Reilly, a review by RichTitle: Mary Reilly Movie Count:17 TV Ep. Count:13 Runtime:108 Certificate:R Year:1996 Genres:Horror, Suspense/Thriller Plot:The classic horror story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde gets a chilling new twist when seen through the eyes of Dr. Jekyll's devoted maid, MARY REILLY. JULIA ROBERTS, JOHN MALKOVICH and the writer and director of DANGEROUS LIAISONS take terror to a new level as the immortal conflict between good and evil is played out in the soul of one man. Equally attracted to her kind employer, Dr.Jekyll, and his mysterious assistant, Mr. Hyde, Mary Reilly must confront her own dangerous desires if she is to survive humanity's greatest evil. My Review: Interesting viewpoint on the age old classic of Jekyll and Hyde, only the high calibre of the support cast (George Cole and Kathy Bates) dragged this from being too mundane. Why this would have a horror genre is beyond me, it is purely a drama with a couple of gruesome attachments. The backdrops and direction give it an authentic feel, only spoilt by Roberts intermittent attempts at pulling off an Irish accent (it might even have been an attempt at cockney!). The introduction of romance in the story gave it a new twist, but strayed too far away from Stevensons original for my liking. An okay film to pass the time, but not one to recommend as a purchase. My Rating Out of a Possible 5 (From Rich's October Horror Fest on October 12th, 2009) Død snø, a review by AchimStars:Plot: With a car packed full of ski equipment and enough beer to fuel their escape from everyday life eight medical students head out on their Easter vacation. Isolated in the snowy hills the group begins to realize they came to the wrong resort, as deep in the hills lay an unthinkable evil. Extras:
My Thoughts: I had a lot of fun with this one. My friend and I were enjoying that this Norwegian film did not use the same patterns an American film would have used, which in whole made it feel fresh. my friend did however complain about the unrealistic use of the human anatomy, especially that of intestines (he is a surgeon...). There are a few laughs in this, as well as a sufficient amount of gore. So, while obviously not a masterpiece of a film, it is great fun for that Saturday night with some friends over.Rating: (From The Movies from Within My Lifetime on August 7th, 2011) Angel Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdAngel: Season 5 12. You're Welcome Original Air Date: 2/4/2004 Cordelia returns to help her friends one last time after an old nemesis shows up determined to defeat Angel by overriding a secret failsafe created by the Powers That Be. Guest Stars: Charisma Carpenter Christian Kane Sarah Thompson Ryan Alvarez T. J. Thyne My Thoughts: An excellent episode. This is the 100th episode of the series. So you know they do a big one for that. Which also means I only have 10 more episodes of this series to watch now. In this episode we get closure of the Cordelia storyline as well as the Lindsey storyline. And I think they did an excellent job on both... especially with Cordelia. That character really grew since the self-centered character of the early days of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. My Rating: (From Angel Marathon on March 24th, 2010) |
