... First Do No Harm, a review by KinkyCyborgTitle:... First Do No Harm Year: 1997 Director: Jim Abrahams Rating: PG-13 Length: 94 Min. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo Subtitles: Stars: Meryl Streep Fred Ward Seth Adkins Allison Janney Margo Martindale Plot:Extras: Scene Access Closed Captioned My Thoughts: Powerful and at times heartbreaking, this delves into the world of epileptic seizures in young children. Based on a true story, it tells the story of a family struggling to endure the hardships, both financial and emotional, from their young son's epilepsy. The movie focuses on the barrage of constant drugs and the horrendous side effects, which seem to make the youngster worse, the potential for brain surgery, which could kill him, and a simple, benign treatment called the Ketogenic Diet which many of the medical professionals failed to disclose to the parents as an option, and discounted out of hand as an unproven 'home remedy'. Jim Abrahams, the film's director, had an invested interest in this film as his son was epileptic and was successfully treated by the fasting diet. He raises the question of a conspiracy to suppress the information of the treatment by a large proportion of the medical community, as it would point a damning finger towards the many years and millions of dollars put into drug therapies that achieved little results. Also the diet earns the drug companies not one red cent. Through media coverage, this movie and crusading parents such as those portrayed by Meryl Streep and Fred Ward in this film, the Ketogenic Diet is now employed worldwide as a first line of defense before drug therapies are even considered. Meryl Streep was brilliant as the relentless mother who defied all the doctors and practically willed her son back to health. While at times this was difficult to watch, seeing what that poor boy had to go through, it was nonetheless gripping. One of the best dramas I have watched in some time. KC Rating: (From KinkyCyborg's Random Reviews 2010 on October 14th, 2010) Garfield: The Movie, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: Garfield: The Movie Year: 2004 Director: Pete Hewitt Rating: PG Length: 80 Min. Garfield (hilariously voiced by Bill Murray) lies around the house, eats lasagna, watches TV and makes wisecracks -- until his owner Jon (Breckin Meyer) falls for a beautiful veterinarian (Jennifer Love Hewitt). When she asks Jon to adopt a sweet pup named Odie, Garfield appears to be in the doghouse. But not for long! When Odie is abducted by a dog trainer, Garfield must get off the couch to rescue the precious pooch. Extras: Scene Access Audio Commentary Bonus Trailers Music Videos Closed Captioned Inside Look: Robots and Because of Winn-Dixie My Thoughts: This is a cute family movie. It isn't as funny as I would have expected it to be... but it does have a few laughs in it. I do think Bill Murray was a good choice for the voice of Garfield. I have been a fan of Jennifer Love Hewitt every since the pilot of Ghost Whisperer aired. I think she is a gorgeous young lady... but I have to say... she looks so much better with the long hair. The should length hair that she has in this movie just does not look right to me. I had stopped watching after the third season set and had the fourth season now for five years in my unwatched pile.I thought that I had passed on watching the fourth season when it originally aired, but most of the season was familiar to me. So I must have watched it after all. I am surprised how much I enjoyed it. I was a fan of the Joey/Pacey storyline in season three, so I was a little wary about watching this season, where the inevitable of those two was to happen. Because sadly they think in this kind of series, that it is boring to keep a couple together for too long. I had thought that the breakup was very much in the beginning of the season, so I was pleasantly surprised that the relationship was going fairly strong throughout the season. The breakup came towards the end. As for the other storylines (spoiler alert): - I didn't like Dru Valentine character. I know we aren't supposed to like him, but the character just didn't work for me at all. - Dawson getting close to Pacey's older sister. I was skeptical at first, but I think the storyline wasn't so bad after all. - Andie left the series after the first few episodes. I always liked her character, but I never really liked her storylines. And is these are resolved, it is now wonder they have written her out of the show. Not much to tell anymore. - Jen was always my least favorite character. And I don't like it that they on the one hand show her as having changed compared to her wild past, but they take any opportunity they can to have her fall back into her old ways (drinking). - Mitch and Gail (Dawson's parents) are getting another baby. Not really an exciting storyline, but I always like it, when The Flash (John Wesley Shipp) is on-screen. - Jack's struggles with being gay is an ok ongoing storyline. - Harve Presnell as the aging and grumpy old-time Hollywood director is a joy to watch. - Harry Shearer as the school principal is a riot
