Amsterdamned, a review by Silence_of_Lambs

Amsterdamned (Uncut)

Summary:
A mysterious diver hiding in Amsterdam's canal system embarks on a rampage of gruesome murders, terrifying city officials and leaving few clues for the city's best detective...

My Thoughts:
Bought this because it showed up as #2 on my Amazon recommendations and I was open for experimenting with a Dutch movie.
The question for me now is: How to write a review on a thriller, without saying too much?
Let me try:

This Thriller leaves the viewer as clueless as the detective.
It has a well constructed plot which keeps your attention until the very end. The not to often seen scenery of Amsterdam adds beautifully to the atmosphere, in fact I cannot think of another city where this movie might have worked that well.
Very nicely integrated are the director's kowtows to "Jaws" and "James Bond".
The director (Dick Maas) is a talented story teller with a very good feeling for timing. Huub Stapel is giving one of the best detectives I've ever seen (even though in many passages he reminds me of Jean Reno)
I actually like it, and if it wasn't for the annoying presentation of the murderer I would have awarded 4 stars.
Not necessarily a "Must Watch" but enjoyable and enthralling.

My Rating: (out of possible 5)

The Sorority, a review by addicted2dvd

OK... you talked me into it... now I need to decide if I forgive you!  :P

The Sorority
A small college town is gripped in terror as coeds are being found burned alive. Carved into their charred remainsare the words "Join or die". The police has no leads, but when a student discovers that the hottest sorority on campus is actually a coven of devil worshipers, she's brutally murdered by the Satanic witches. At the student's graveside her sister vows revenge and sets out to make things right. Hunter becomes the hunted as she fights her way through a maze of Satanic rituals, murder, beheadings, lesbianism and black magic in her quest for vengeance, as all hell breaks loose in the final showdown between good and evil.

My Thoughts:
OMG... what a total and utter waste of time! Naturally after seeing the trailer to this movie the other day online I was not expecting much of anything at all. But in this case I was not expecting anything and still got disappointed! The acting is atrocious... the quality of the effects is laughable... and the DVD itself is pitiful! I got this DVD for free.... And I Feel Cheated!!! I was never so thrilled to see a set of credits roll!

This series is a based on a Stephen King book. There was also a movie based on it with Christopher Walken. The source material is very fitting as a premise for a TV series. I always enjoyed watching it. The first episode is a good introduction and has many elements which were also in the movie (I haven't read the book).
