Separate Ways, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: Separate Ways (1981)

Genre: Drama
Director: Howard Avedis
Rating: R
Length: 1h31
Video: Full Frame
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
Karen Black
Tony Lo Bianco
Arlene Golonka
David Naughton
Jack Carter

Plot:
Valentine Colby (Karen Black) and her husband Ken (Tony LoBianco) live with their son in upper middle class suburban comfort, but from behind closed doors his family is falling apart and heading in Separate Ways.

My Thoughts:
This is a part of a boxset of thriller and it sure had nothing to do in it. I ain't a big drama fan and certainly less those about familly breakup. So it was not a fun watching time for me, in fact I was unable to watch it without a break (too many bad memory were coming back about my parent separation, it's weird that an event that had happened 26 years ago can always affect you). The film itself is good and certainly well act, nothing bad to say about it. I'm sure that those who like this genre of movie would love this one too, but I will certainly not rewatch it again (fuck, I continue too feel sad writing my review and I fucking hate that).

The Cove, a review by Critter

The Cove

2009

Academy Award Winner: Best Documentary Feature 2010

Director: Louie Psihoyos

Writer: Mark Monroe

Plot:
5/5 Stars

My Thoughts:
(click to show/hide)

The Cove was a milestone for animal rights awareness. These people stopped at nothing to get the footage that they did and were well prepared to enter an extremely dangerous zone. A team was put together including ex military and divers and then the equipment rolled in (all of which had to be snuck into a small hotel in Taiji). They had thermal camera, underwater sound recorders, night vision cameras, and the most brilliant of them all, high definition cameras disguised in false rocks which were planted in the dead of night around the area of slaughter. These rocks were actually created for the team by one of the head molders in the Industrial Light and Magic film visual effects company.

Now I really could go on forever about this documentary but in the end you just have to see it for yourself. I was in tears countless times, as well as often on the edge of my seat as these brave people held somewhat stakeouts in the middle of the night while being followed by Japanese police. I highly recommend that anyone who can get a copy of this film watch it, and then try and show it to their friends.

Charmed Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Disc 3:

9. There's Something About Leo
Leo's announcement that he is an Avatar causes pandemonium in The Charmed Ones' lives. Blood is shed when the distracted sisters are unable to fulfill their duty to protect the life of an Innocent.

My Thoughts:
A good... but not great episode... it is one of those episodes I call a "what if Episode"... where something is brought out into the open... just for the one episode to see how things would turn out.  There is nothing really special about this episode... but it isn't bad either.

10. Witchness Protection
Leo is forced to protect the Seer upon the Avatars' insistence that she has information that can help destroy the demons while Agent Brody shares his darkest secret with Paige.

My Thoughts:
This episode I really enjoyed a lot... unfortunately this is the last episode to guest star Charisma Carpenter.

11. Ordinary Witches
The underworld's most powerful demon transfers The Charmed Ones' powers to innocent bystanders who run amok with their new abilites.

My Thoughts:
A good episode... but once again nothing really special.

12. Extreme Makeover: World Edition
With the impending doom of the Avatars' Utopian transformation of the world where all humans must be put to sleep, The Charmed Ones become victims of a paranoia spell that attracts and kills an Avatar.

My Thoughts:
Once again an alright episode. For some reason I never really cared about the whole Avatar storyline. I am just glad that the Avatar storyline didn't last the whole season.
