Passchendaele, a review by Rich

Passchendaele

Canadian film told with compassion and noble ambition, certainly a story that on paper appears more interesting than it did on the big screen. To say the special feature 'the road to Passchendaele' available from the extras is twice as good as the film is no exaggeration, it is one of the better making-of features I have seen before, and is wholly more memorable than a lot of the actual film.
The war scenes in the movie, gruesome muddy trench warfare with pointless but courageous deaths, are simply amazing, intense, and challenge Saving Private Ryan for quality, and pull this film above what could of been a quite tedious affair. Unfortunately the romance between the leads continually muffles the film, is unbelievable, and eventually causes what could have been a great war film to misfire.

My Thoughts:
I liked this one quite a bit. Of course that could have something to do with the fact that I am a fan of Katherine Heigl. I have enjoyed her work since she was in the TV Series Roswell. Then I also thought she was great in the series Grey's Anatomy. Yes... this movie is very predictable... but then what Romantic Comedy isn't? In my eyes romantic comedies isn't about the ending... but the journey leading up to it. And this one I found to be a lot of fun. I have read other reviews for this movie... and for the most part they seem to agree that this one is nothing special... bordering on boring. Well, what can I say? This isn't the first time I seemed to be the only one to enjoy something a lot. But that does tell me to be cautious in recommending it. So I would have to tell people to try catching it on cable or something. Don't buy this movie on my review alone. But I do see myself upgrading it to widescreen if I get a chance.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Marathon , a review by Critter

1.09
The Puppet Show

Plot: After Principal Flutie's death, the new sheriff in Sunnydale High, Principal Snyder, forces Buffy and her friends to participate in the school talent show. When a girl's heart is harvested, Buffy suspects a fellow student and his strangely talkative dummy.

My Thoughts: This episode plays off a fear that many people have, one which is almost as prominent as that of 'clowns' and that is of dummies. Dolls and dummies coming to life is something that creeps many people out so I love the twist they put on it in this episode, especially towards the end. I also love the addition of Principal Snyder in this episode, he comes off as a bit creepy but even quite unintentionally humerous on a few occaisions and is a great replacment for Flutey. I also love that this episode expanded into the closing credits with that hilarious scene from the talent show.

Rating: 3/5
