Big, a review by DJ Doena

May, 21st

Tom Hanks    ...    Josh Baskin
Elizabeth Perkins   ...    Susan
Robert Loggia   ...    MacMillan
John Heard   ...    Paul
Jared Rushton   ...    Billy
David Moscow   ...    Young Josh

Synopsis: Josh is a 13 year old boy who loves to hang out with his best friend Billy. But he's also starting to get interested in girls and when he's humiliated in front of the girl he likes he just wishes to be big on a Zoltar magic machine. And his wish is granted. When he wakes up, he's an adult who has to flee from his own house. Billy helps him to find a room and a job in New York City. Then they start to search for the Zoltar again. But life as an adult isn't as terrible as it seemed in the beginning.

My Opinion: It's a nice comedy flick which I enjoyed very much. Tom Hanks is a great actor who can play like an innocent child as well as his more serious roles, like The Green Mile or Saving Private Ryan. And Elizabeth Perkins was great, too. They were a great it-wasn't-supposed-to-be couple and I especially liked the scenes where she tried to hit on him and he reacted like a 13 year old. ;)

There still one thing I can't get out of my head. I am aware that there are more movies out there like this (e.g. 13 Going on 30 from 2004). And even though I have seen the extended edition now I still have the following image in my head: After Josh had become a kid again he goes to school again and sits in his place when a new red-headed school girl comes into class and gets seated behind him. He turns around and she smiles to him.
I don't know from which movie I got that scene but I always associate it with Big.

Wings of Desire, a review by Antares

Wings of Desire (1987) 3.5/5 - I actually watched this film about a month ago and forgot to write a review on it. Now that four weeks have passed by, I am at a loss to think of anything in this film that was truly memorable. As I was watching it, it held my curiosity and there were some truly beautiful scenes, but as a whole, I will probably never watch it again. Bruno Ganz was great as can be expected, and I loved looking at Solveig Dommartin. It's a shame she died so young. Sorry if there's not much written here, but the film just didn't grab me. I liked it, but barely.

Smallville Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 3: Disc 1:

1. Exile (Part 1)
Under the influence of red kryptonite, Clark is following a life of crime in Metropolis while his friends and parents desperately try to find him. Lex is forced to confront his personal demons on a desert island, while Lionel holds a funeral for his presumed-dead son.

My Thoughts:
A nice continuation from last season's cliffhanger. I really liked the way they handled Lex on the island. The start of the fight between Clark (on Red Kryptonite) and Jonathan was very cool too. Definitely a good episode!

2. Phoenix (Part 2)
Clark gives up the ring and its effects rather then kill his father, and both he and the rescued Lex return to Smallville. Clark must deal with crime lord Morgan Edge, who has followed him to Smallville, while Lex must determine who tried to have him killed - Lionel or Helen.

My Thoughts:
This episode starts with the continued fight between Clark and Jonathan. This episode tells us what actually happened on the plane that left Lex stranded on a deserted island. I thought they put that all together very well... another really good episode.

3. Extinction
Clark discovers someone is hunting people affected by the kryptonite rocks and the killer's next target is Lex. Clark uses his powers to save Lex, but is caught off guard when the killer learns his weakness and shoots him with a kryptonite bullet.

My thoughts:
This is another episode I liked a lot. There really is some pretty cool special effects in this show. I really liked how they did Clark getting shot by the kryptonite bullet and how the green veins from the wound spread as Jonathan tried to remove the bullet. I swear those needle nosed pliers into his shoulder fishing for the bullet looked painful!

4. Slumber
Clark dreams he is being pursued by a frightened young girl who needs his help. However, after he discovers she is actually a comatose neighbor who should have woken up years ago, he enlists Lana's help to uncover the truth which puts Lana in grave danger.

My thoughts:
This is a great episode... up there with my favorites. I liked the look of "The Traveler" in this one.... had a real Grim Reaper feel to him.
