Masters of Horror: Family, a review by addicted2dvd

Title: Masters of Horror: Family
Movie Count:  7
TV Ep. Count:  2
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  4:30pm

Plot:
It's a beautiful day in suburbia where mild-mannered bachelor Harold Thompson (George Wendt of CHEERS) is happily at work in his basement building the perfect family. But when a young couple moves in nextdoor, Harold sets his sights on the sexy young wife (Meredith Monroe of DAWSON'S CREEK). In a sunshine world of picket fences and manicured lawns, is it ever possible to know what gruesome plans are percolating in the minds of your neighbors? Matt Keeslar (SCREAM 3, ROSE RED) co-stars in this grisly black comedy with a killer twist from Director John Landis (AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, ANIMAL HOUSE) and Writer Brent Hanley (FRAILTY).

My Thoughts:
This is an episode of the Anthology Showtime Series Masters of Horror. This is one of the episodes I really enjoyed. It has a nice amount of gore in it... but also at the same time it has a lighthearted sense about it that borders on comedy. I think everyone in this one did a good job... I liked all the characters. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

My Rating
Out of a Possible 5

Plot:
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore star together for the first time since The Wedding Singer in one of the funniest romantic comedies in years.

Henry Roth (Sandler) lives an enviable life in a Hawaiian paradise, spending every night with a beautiful tourist in search of an island fling. It's a sweet life with no strings attached...until he meets Lucy (Barrymore). He and Lucy hit it off from the get-go, but the next day she acts like she doesn't know him. Has his karma come around to kick him in the butt or what? Actually, Lucy has short-term memory loss, so every night all memory of her day is erased. But a man in love will go to any lengths to win over the girl of his dreams, and if that means having to find imaginative ways of doing it over again every day, then Henry's up for the challenge.

Rob Schneider (Big Daddy) and Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) co-star in 50 FIRST DATES, which will win you over every time you watch it!

My Thoughts:
I know of a lot of people that dislike Adam Sandler... but I personally have always enjoyed his movies. I also have enjoyed Drew Barrymore in most the stuff I have seen her in... so when I saw this one in the bargain bin of the local Wal-mart I was pretty quick to grab it. I know I have seen this one once before when it was first released... but really don't remember much about it. But I was pretty sure it was one I enjoyed. After watching it today I realized yes I did enjoy this movie... Very much so... even more then I remembered! It is definitely a more mature comedy then a lot of other Adam Sandler movies. Drew Barrymore was great as the cute and sweet girl next door with no short term memory. I also loved how they ended this movie. They opted to make it more realistic instead of trying to pull off some sort of miracle cure for Lucy. Was there anything I didn't like about this movie? Sure... there is the walrus vomit joke which would have fit in many Sandler movies... but just didn't belong in this one... then there was Lucy singing the Beach Boy Song with a terrible (hopefully fake) singing voice. And lastly I didn't care much for Lucy's brother. But all that is really minor... and didn't ruin my enjoyment of the movie much... if at all. I would say even if you do not usually enjoy Adam Sandler movies... give this one a chance... you may be surprised.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

"Friends" Marathon, a review by Rogmeister

The One With The Blackout--The city has a blackout...during which Chandler is stranded inside an ATM vestibule with model Jill Goodacre while the others are at Monica and Rachel's apartment.  We meet Paolo in this episode...which is actually not one of my real favorite episodes.

The One Where Nana Dies Twice--Ross and Monica's grandmother passes away...and a woman co-worker of Chandler's mistakes him for being gay.  Elinor Donohue guest-stars.  Another okay but not great episode.

The One Where Underdog Gets Away--Now this one I like better than the previous two...it's the first of several Thanksgiving Day episodes.  It's also the first appearance of Jane Sibbett as Ross' ex-wife Carol.  I like the moment where Ross goes to her apartment...she's not there but her lesbian life partner Susan is.  Ross notices a row of books and comments "Wow, you sure got a lot of books about being a lesbian..." to which Susan replies "Well, you have to take a course...otherwise they don't let you do it."  Ross returns later and his singing to the baby in Carol's tummy causes the baby to kick for the first time (while he's singing the theme to The Monkees, though making up new words).  The rest get locked out accidentally while dinner is cooking...Monica was making 3 kinds of potatoes for everyone so she exclaims "Potatoes are ruined, potatoes are ruined, potatoes are ruined!"  They wind up having grilled cheese sandwiches for Thanksgiving!

The One With The Monkey--Ross becomes the first "Friend" to get a pet...a monkey he names Marcel.  This is a New Year's Eve episode and we get to see Janice again.

The One With Mrs. Bing--Here we meet Chandler's mother, a write played by Morgan Fairchild...who shares a kiss with Ross.

The One With The Dozen Lasagnas--It's bye-bye Paolo after he makes a pass at Phoebe during a massage.

Some decent episodes but I might not put any of these on "The Best of Friends"...
