My Thoughts: An enjoyable film. The series is moving forward and this film sets up ready for the next installment. Rating: (From Dave's DVD/Blu-ray Reviews on May 20th, 2012) Winning Season, a review by RichWinning Season Fairly run of the mill sports associated story, this time with he backdrop of baseball, directed well and with a fair paced storyline that prevented the film slipping into tedium or over-sentimentality which often afflicts such productions. It is reminiscent of a Disney tv movie, a bit weepy with occasional drama, it will wash over you without making much impact. Modine was not a good choice for the lead, being unconvincing as any form of an athlete, but I thought Shawn Hatosy was particularly good. When this series started, I did not think that it would become a series which is not just a cheap remake of the original. But now in season 4 they are still going strong. The documentary style is still enjoyable, but it has become really unbelievable. For four years this camera crew with multiple cameras has followed them around now and they never got in the shot of each other's cameras Due to the writer's strike this season was a couple of episodes short. But five of the episodes are twice the runtime as usual which makes it like watching 19 instead of 14 episodes. Also there are a lot of deleted scenes available. About 10-20 minutes per episodes. These were obviously cut for time and and not for bad quality. Rating: (From Tom's Random Reviews on September 13th, 2008) |
