Terror is 'One Missed Call' away in this got-your-number shocker based on the hit Japanese thriller 'Chakushin ari'. Does the viral spree of calls have a single source? Is there something that links the victims? Psych student Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon) and detective Jack Andrews (Ed Burns) scramble for answers. And they're working fast. Because Beth just discovered an ominous message.

Extras:
Promotional Trailers: "The Sick House," "Otis," "The Orphanage" & "Lost Boys: The Tribe"

My Thoughts:
I went into this one with low expectations. After all... all the reviews I have read has said this one pretty much sucks. Even though I had low expectations I remained hopeful as I do tend to be more forgiving then most people... especially on horror movies. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be this time. I would say it is an OK film.... but definitely should have been A LOT better. They really did seem to try hard. Even had a few fairly original ideas in there that I personally haven't seen a lot of in horror movies... but the stuff they tried just didn't work. Some of the effects were pretty cool... I will give it that much. It just wasn't enough to save the movie. I found myself loosing interest about half way through the movie. I mean come on... it is pretty bad when the most excitement I got from this disc was watching the trailer for "Lost Boys: The Tribe."  So... my recommendation? I wouldn't even go as far as recommending a rental. If you really want to see it... wait for it to show up on cable.

Swades, a review by Tom

Title: Swades
Year: 2004
Director: Ashutosh Gowariker

Audio: German: Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, Hindi: Dolby Digital 5.1

Stars:
Shah Rukh Khan
Gayatri Joshi
Kishori Ballal

Lekh Tandon

Plot:
Set in modern day India, Swades is a film that tackles the issues that development throws up on a grass root level. It is to this India, which is colorful, heterogeneous and complex that Mohan Bhargava (Shah Rukh Khan), a bright young scientist working as a project manager in NASA, returns to on a quest to find his childhood nanny. The film uses the contrast between the highly developed world of NASA, which has been at the forefront of advances in space research, and this world back home in India, which is at the crossroads of development. Mohan's simple quest becomes the journey that every one of us goes through in search of that metaphysical and elusive place called 'home'.

My Thoughts:
Mohan, a NRI (Non-Resident Indian) returns to India after living twelve years in America working for NASA. Here he is confronted with poverty, illiteracy, caste discrimination and even child marriage. But on the other hand he also experiences again the connection to his mother country. After trying to bring some change into a small villiage, where his childhood nanny now lives, he struggles with the decision if he should return to America or stay in India.
I enjoyed this movie. Shah Rukh Khan did a great job. This movie is a great insight into today's India outside the cities. I can also recommend this movie to those who do not like musicals. Even though there are some songs, there is hardly dancing and the songs are few and far between. They do not distract from the movie at all in my opinion.

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century

What's the show about?
Buck Rogers is an astronaut who's been frozen in his spacecraft for 500 years and is been resurrected in the late 25th century. Earth has seen a nuclear holocaust and mankind lives in a few shielded cities and depends on the trade with other worlds. Buck Rogers has now to live in this world and to adapt to this new culture.

What happened before?
It's a remake of the 1939s, but since I've never seen this, I do not know what they've taken over and what not.

"Awakening"
In the year 1987 Buck Rogers is send on a mission that should've lasted 5 months. Due to a cosmic accident he is frozens and awakes 504 years later on the Draconian flagship under the command of princess Ardala. Earth seeks a trade treaty with the Draconian Empire and Aradala's father who rules over 3/4 of the known universe. But Buck is suspicious whether the empire has the best interests of Earth in mind.

My Opinion
This is one series I just bought because of the pilot. I watched that show in the late 80s on television  but only a few episodes because I had a regular appointment when the show was running. After I bought the DVD set, I watched a few episodes but it didn't interest me that much. That's also the reason why I haven't got the second season. But the pilot I could watch over and over again. I could laugh my ass off everytime Buck shows that Earth pilots how to fly in a dogfight.
