Twins, a review by Tom

MOVIE / DVD INFO:
Title: Twins
Year: 1988

Rating: PG
Length: 107 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85
Audio: English: Dolby Digital Surround , French: Dolby Digital Surround
Subtitles: English

Stars:
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Danny DeVito
Kelly Preston
Chloe Webb
Bonnie Bartlett

Plot:
Superstars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito team up for twice the laughs in this hilarious box-office blockbuster from director Ivan Reitman ("Ghostbusters").

An ambitious genetic experiment takes the wrong turn when two twins--who look nothing alike--are born and then separated. Years later, the unlikely siblings meet: Julius, a highly educated but sheltered giant with a big heart, and Vincent, a pint-sized hustler with an insatiable lust for women and money. With girlfriends in tow and a hitman on their tail, the newfound brothers set off on a wild, cross-country misadventure to find their mother--but end up finding out more about themselves.

My Thoughts:
One of the better (if not the best) Schwarzenegger comedies. Mostly due to the unlikely pairing with Danny DeVito.
This must be the movie besides the Conan and Red Sonja movies in which Schwarzenegger is bare-chested the most

I like the friendly stabs at each other of Schwarzenegger and Stallone. Here the Rambo poster scene. In Last Action Hero the Stallone as Terminator scene and of course the "Schwarzenegger as President" scene in Demolition Man :)

Plot:
Amelia (AFI Award winner Essie Davis, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, The Slap) is a single mother plagued by the violent death of her husband. When a disturbing storybook called Mister Babadook turns up at her house, she is forced to battle with her son's deep-seated fear of a monster. Soon she discovers a sinister presence all around her.

A chilling tale of unseen and otherworldly horror in the haunting tradition of The Orphanage, Jennifer Kent's visceral journey into the heart of fear itself is as terrifying as it is believable.

Extras:
  • Scene Access
  • Feature Trailers
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Featurettes
  • Interviews
  • Reversible Cover

My Thoughts:

This one I enjoyed quite a bit. I will say it is a different type of horror movie and it is one that leaves lot to the imagination. Which means different people can take different thing from it. But that is not a bad thing at all. I did have a little trouble warming up to some of the characters, though I was able to. This is definitely one I recommend checking out.

My PILOT Marathon, a review by Rich

Are You Being Served?

Pilot - Are You Being Served?
After a reorganisation, the Ladies Intimate Apparel and the Men's Ready To Wear departments are forced to share the same floor.

Classic British comedy, which I haven't seen for many years. This B&W pilot from 1972 introduces us to all of the characters from Grace Bros, and is full of the double entendres and gentle humour that saw this programme last 13 years. Even after so many years it is still extremely funny, in what would now be seen as a very innocent level of writing.
Excellent for reminiscing.
