Fantastic Mr. Fox, a review by dfmorgan
Year: 2009 Director: Wes Anderson Cast: George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill, Murray, Jason Schwartzman Overview: GEORGE CLOONEY and MERYL STREEP lend their voices to this hilarious and heartwarming animated adventure from director WES ANDERSON. Mr. and Mrs. Fox (CLOONEY and STREEP) live a happy home life with their eccentric son Ash (JASON SCHWARTZMAN) and visiting nephew Kristofferson. That is until Mr. Fox slips into his sneaky, old ways and plots the greatest chicken heist the animal world has ever seen. Based on the beloved, best-selling book by ROALD DAHL (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Fantastic Mr. Fox is family fun at its very finest. This edition of Fantastic Mr. Fox contains a Blu-Ray, DVD and a Digital Copy - for you to enjoy this film wherever and whenever you want! Watched: 7th Mar 2010 My Thoughts: Another animation, stop motion this time. Although I have heard of Roald Dahl I haven't read any of his works so came cold into this story. I found it quite enjoyable with the voices lending a comforting tone to the on-screen action, George Clooney as the charming rogue Mr. Fox and Meryl Streep as his counterpoint Mrs. Fox. The humour seemed to be pitched at just the right level without going over the top and when necessary reigned back in for the sadder moments, although there weren't too many of those. My Rating: Thoroughly Enjoyable 4 Dave (From Dave's DVD/Blu-ray Reviews on March 7th, 2010) George of the Jungle 2, a review by RichTitle: George of the Jungle 2 Runtime:83 Certificate:PG Year:2003 Genres:Family, Comedy Plot:"Watch out for the tree-slammin', elephant-callin' action -- all the fun of the original and more!" (Mark S. Allen, UPN-TV). The wild adventure and comedy that families and critics went bananas for continue with everyone's favorite characters in GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE 2. When we last saw George, he and his bride Ursula were living in wedded bliss in the peaceful jungle. Unfortunately, all this is about to change. Scheming mother-in-law Beatrice Stanhope is not about to let her daughter and grandson hang around with the klutzy King of the Jungle forever. In an elaborate plot, she teams with Ursula's obsessive ex-fiance Lyle to hypnotize Ursula into leaving George and turn his jungle to mulch! That's when all vines lead to Las Vegas. There, George, Ape, Shep, and Tookie-Tookie must rescue Ursula, and then swing back to save the jungle from Lyle's bulldozing bullies. You'll go ape when these jungle jesters come together for irresistible all-new family entertainment. My Review: Some sequels should never be made, this is one of them. I didn't even like the first film very much, but it was twice as good as this blatant commercial attempt to cash-in. Without Brendan Frazer in the lead role, there is little of merit to establish a positive from this attempted comedy. The script is funny, but only because there isn't one, as the 'story' wavers all over the place in a dumb plotline that is stupid. I actually felt myself getting irritated by its desperate attempts to mimic the first movie, and its cringeworthy amatuerism. Hollywood owes me another 80 minutes which I would have preferred spent watching paint dry. The outtakes in the credits were funny, thats the only plus in a rubbish movie to avoid. Plot: Can they stay together? What a time for suprises for all the friends! Kaoru and Aoi go on a date together and spend their time reminiscing and enjoying each other's company. The two end up spending the evening at a hotel... Later, the residents of Sakuraba mansion decide to go to a spa resort and Kaoru winds up seeing more than he was meant to! Digital cameras can be so much fun - the gang decides to take some pictures themselves, dressing up in costumes and outfits that turn out to be very fun. Tina then takes a trip back home to America, leaving the rest of the household worried and missing her... will she ever come back? Ai Yori Aoshi: Enishi Season 1.12 Kizuna Writer: Kou Fumizuki (Original Material By) Director: Katsuichi Nakayama Cast: Soichiro Hoshi (Kaoru Hanabishi), Ayako Kawasumi (Aoi Sakuraba), Akiko Hiramatsu (Miyabi Kagurazaki), Satsuki Yukino (Tina Foster), Kaori Mizuhashi (Taeko Minazuki), Sayaka Narita (Mayu Miyuki), Haruko Momoi (Chika Minazuki), Kimiko Koyama (Natsuki Komiya), Mamiko Noto (Chizuru Aizawa), Yuka Inoguchi (Uzume), Mami Koyama (Tina's Mom), , Dave Wittenberg, Julie Ann Taylor, Kay Jensen, Kirsty Pape, Lia Sargent, Michelle Ruff, Midge Mayes, Scott Page-Pagter, Sue Beth Arden, Wendee Lee This episode is more about concluding Tina's storyline (a supporting character), than about the two main characters. I don't remember how much resolve they brought to those two in the previous episodes. But I know it was definately different than the manga ending (which was also still running when this series was produced). Rating: (From Tom's TV Finales marathon on January 26th, 2013) |
