(From Reviews and ramblings by Gunnar on August 30th, 2013) Thunderbirds, a review by TomTitle: Thunderbirds Year: 2004 Director: Jonathan Frakes Rating: PG Length: 91 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85 Audio: English: Dolby Digital 5.1, Commentary: Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Subtitles: English Stars: Brady Corbet Sophia Myles Ben Kingsley Bill Paxton Vanessa Anne Hudgens Plot: Saving is a full-time job for ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy, his four eider sons and their five incredible machines: the Thunderbirds. Together they form International Rescue, a top secret organisation the world relies upon. But today, they are under threat: their arch enemy The Hood has trapped them in space and taken over their hi-tech crafts and technology for his own evil purposes. Unbeknown to The Hood though, Alan the youngest Tracy boy, is still on their secret island. But does he have what it takes to save his family... and the world? Directed by Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek Insurrection; Star Trek: First Contact) and starring Ben Kingsley (Schindler's List, Gandhi), Bill Paxton (Apollo 13, Twister) and Anthony Edwards (E.R.), Thunderbirds blasts into action with extraordinary vehicles and brave young heroes. Extras: Commentary Featurettes Interactive Game Music Videos Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: As a kid I sometimes watched the original series when I happen to catch it on TV, but I never really followed it. This movie, though having good effects and good production values, is nothing remarkable. The problem with it is, that it seems solely targeted at kids, and not to the now adult fans of the original series. The looks of Lady Penelope very much reminded me of Sarah from Chuck. Although she is played by Sophia Miles who I know from Outlander. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Stereo, Japanese: Dolby Digital Stereo Subtitles: English Plot: Love is not a spectator sport. High school is a hectic time of change for most... But for happy-go-lucky Yamato, it's gonna be a complete revolution! He's the new kid in class, having transferred to the big city to attend Aoba High, where he finds himself smitten with the local rising star of track and field. Yet two people could not be more different! And as Suzuka remains completely uninspired by Yamato's cheerfully irresponsible nature, things progress from bad to worse with record-breaking speed! So when the young man decides to step up his efforts and join the track team, his best might not measure up... It's mixed signals and high school hormones with everyone running in circles! Throw in the antics of a handful of high school stereotypes, and Yamato's completely out of his league! When love is not a spectator sport, the only question is who will go the distance? Extras: Commentary Scene Access Textless songs. Trailers My Thoughts: An enjoyable high school romance without wacky characters for a change. The male lead falls in love with Suzuka, a girl in his class and also his neighbour. Problem is, that she has some emotional baggage, which causes her to be rather cool towards him in the beginning, but also doesn't let her acknowledge her feelings towards him later on. Animation is rather average, but I like the character design of the characters, especially Suzuka. The only thing I do not like about is, is the hair of the male lead.
