The Messengers, a review by addicted2dvd

The Messengers

My Thoughts:
When I first bought this in August of '07 I was excited about watching it... the trailer looked good... the back of the box reaffirmed that I would enjoy it. And I watched it as soon as I got home. But I came out of it a little disappointed. I think I went into it with more expectations then I should have. Now today... on the second viewing I did enjoy it more then I did the first time... but still is far from one of the best. I won't say it is a bad movie... just average for the genre. Maybe slightly above average at the most. I will say that I did like Kristen Stewart as the teenage girl. She is the same girl that played Jodie Foster's teen in the movie Panic Room five years earlier. It was also pretty cool to see an appearance by William B. Davis (Smoking Man on X-Files) in this one as well.

My Rating:
Out of a possible 5:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a review by Dragonfire

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
What wonders await you in Willy Wonka's factory? Explore fields of soft minty sugar grass in the Chocolate Room...Sail along the Chocolate River in a pink sugar boat...Experiment with Everlasting Gobstoppers in the Inventing Room...Observe talented squirrels in the Nut Room and travel to the Television Room by a glass elevator. You'll find a lot that's funny, a little that's mysterious...and an adventure as sweet as a satisfying as a Wonka Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight bar. This dazzling film adapted from Roald Dahl's classic children's novel, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore, is your Golden Ticket to a world so inventive, so imaginative, you won't want to miss a delicious moment!

I was in the mood to watch this one again recently.  I know some people don't care for this version or how Johnny Depp played Willie Wonka, but I really liked it.  I just find the movie fun and entertaining even after seeing it several times.  I only saw the original for the first time after seeing this one.  The versions are a little different.

I really enjoy the movie and think it is very well done.

I am pretty sure I posted about this one here before.  I also posted a longer review on Epinions after seeing the movie in the theater originally.  I'll share the link to that review again.

Pete's Pilots, a review by addicted2dvd

The Cisco Kid
This classic western series was the first to be filmed in color, even though the majority of television sets in the country were black and white. The show presented the tales of The Cisco Kid (Duncan Renaldo) and his trusty sidekick Poncho (Leo Carrillo) as they traveled about the West, coming to the aid of those in need of it. One of the most interesting aspects about this program is the fact the main characters were Hispanic and presented in a positive manner, making it unique since most programming on television at the time featured Caucasian performers presenting shows geared toward a Caucasian audience.

Boomerang
Pancho and the Cisco Kid are wanted by the law. A real estate broker hired two men to impersonate them and rob the Mesa Verde Bank.

My Thoughts:
This is the very first taste of The Cisco Kid I ever had. While not a bad show... the pilot episode wasn't great. they do nothing to introduce the characters to try to tell you who they are and what they do. The episode felt more like any old episode that could have run anywhere in the middle of the season or series. From what I understand this was a radio show before going to Television. And at the time they probably figured there was no need for introducing the characters all over again for Television. Which I am sure made sense at the time... but coming here now... so many years later it is of no help what so ever. While I have low expectations for quality on such old shows. I was a little disappointed in the quality of (at least) this episode. The picture looked washed out. Granted this is a cheap set from Mills Creek so I shouldn't be surprised. The show itself was ok... I think I need to watch a few more episodes before I can get hooked on it. I thought Poncho was to be the comedic sidekick of The Cisco Kid... but at least in this episode I didn't find him all that funny. I mean I can see where they tried... but they just didn't do it for me... at least not in this episode.
