The Beverly Hillbillies, a review by addicted2dvd

The Beverly Hillbillies
The ultimate culture clash makes for a truly hilarious rags-to-riches story when the Clampett family strikes oil in the swamp behind their Ozark mountain shack. Inspired to relocate to Beverly Hills, the innocent, hard-working family is perfect bait for the swindlers, social climbers and gold diggers who await them. The all-star cast features Dabney Coleman, Lily Tomlin, Jim Varney, Lea Thompson, Rob Schneider and Diedrich Bader.

My Thoughts:
I decided to check this one out when I spotted it on Encore On-Demand. I wasn't expecting much of anything... but thought I could get a few laughs from it... as I used to watch the series years ago. And I definitely got a few laughs out of it. Matter of fact I quite enjoyed this one. I think this one would be a fun watch now and again... so if I can find it cheap enough I just may have to add it to my collection.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Thunderball, a review by Dragonfire

The thrills never let up as James Bond dives into this riveting adventure filled with explosive confrontations and amazing underwater action sequences! Sean Connery brings his characteristic style, humor and magnetism to Agent 007 as he travels to Nassau to track down villainous criminal Emilio Largo, who's threatening to plunge the world into a nuclear holocaust.

My Thoughts

Overall, I liked Thunderball.  The plot was interesting, though certain things didn't work as well.  Emilio was a decent villain, though not as sinister as some of the others.  I did notice things that ended up being used in a twisted version in the Austin Powers movies.  James continued to hit on basically every woman he came into contact with.  Domino was the main female character and she didn't seem as interesting to me as some of the other women have been.  I did think the big fight scene underwater was interesting, though it did run on a bit too long.  I did enjoy the movie, though it isn't my favorite Bond movie.  It is done very well though.  For my review I posted at Epinions I rounded up to 5 stars since I couldn't give it 4 1/2 there.

My copy has all sorts of interesting extras that included things on the making of the movie that I thought were very entertaining.

I did post a review on Epinions if anyone wants to take a look.

The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries
Follow the clues to mystery, adventure and thrills as Season One of The Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries comes to DVD for the first time ever! Teen sensations Shaun Cassidy, Parker Stevenson and Pamela Sue Martin star as brave super-sleuths in 14 spooky episodes loaded with spellbinding action and smash-hit pop songs, including Shaun Cassidy's #1hit "Da Doo Ron Ron." Inspired by the hugely popular books and with an amazing lineup of guest stars including Jamie Lee Curtis, Mark Harmon, Bob Crane, Rick Nelson and more, it's no surprise that The Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries is an open-and-shut case for fun!

The Mystery of the Haunted House
Joe and Frank Hardy follow their father on a "fishing trip" and end up helping him solve the case of a former soldier who is being chased by killers.

My Thoughts:
This is a series that I grew up watching back in the late '70s. A series I have always had fond memories of... and I was thrilled when it was announced they would be coming on DVD. In this series they would take turns... one week having a Hardy Boys mystery... and the next having a Nancy Drew mystery. Even though I was more partial to Nancy Drew (damn she was cute!)... I enjoyed The Hardy Boys as well. I believe it was in season 2 that they had a few episodes where they had both The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew in the same episode... usually a 2 part episode that started on The Hardy Boys one week and ended on Nancy Drew the following. Those were always fun episodes.

In this pilot episode, they just jump right into the mystery. No real introduction to the characters... just them getting involved in the mystery right away. I am sure they figured everyone would know the characters from the many books that came before the series. I must say... while a club is not my idea of a fun place to go... the one in this episode looked to be fun... having it set up like a haunted house and the employees dressed as monsters and such. The mystery itself is fairly predictable... but you must remember this show is geared towards the kids/teens more then the adults.
