Sherlock Holmes, a review by RossRoy
(From RossRoy's Random Viewings on May 4th, 2010) Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, a review by Tom
Stars: Kristen Bell as Mary Lane Christian Campbell as Jimmy Harper Neve Campbell as Miss Poppy Alan Cumming as Lecturer/Goat-Man/FDR Ana Gasteyer as Mae Coleman Plot: Inspired by the legendary 1936 film of the same name, Reefer Madness is a tongue-in-cheek raucous musical comedy about clean-cut kids who fall into a twisted, hilarious downward spiral of reefer, sex and mayhem! A straight-laced high school lecturer (Alan Cumming) seeks to impart his wisdom to frightened parents about the "demon weed" by telling them the frightful tale of two innocent teens. Mary Lane (Kristen Bell) and Jimmy Harper (Christian Campbell), who fall under the spell of the public's enemy #1 and quickly find themselves in a world of evil jazz music, dance and madness. Filled with outrageously funny and musical performances by Neve Campbell, Christian Campbell, Kristen Bell and Steven Weber, Reefer Madness is the feel good event of the year that should not be missed! Extras:
My Thoughts: A nice musical which I can see myself watch again. But so far (after first time viewing) there are no songs which really stood out for me. Mostly the movie seemed like wanting to be another Rocky Horror. Like the first song with Kirsten Bell and Christian Campbell reminded me of the song "Dammit Janet" from Rocky Horror, only not nearly as catching. The story in both is about a nice, innocent, All-American couple who gets seduced to be bad.Matthias stated a few times that he prefers this over "Repo! The Genetic Opera". I can see that. I also bought that one recently, but I couldn't get into the movie in the first few minutes, so I haven't really watched it yet. With this one I didn't have a problem, even if the songs seemed more like standard musical fare. But who knows. Sometimes musicals need more viewing to really catch on with me. Rating: (From Tom's Random Reviews on April 24th, 2011) Babylon 5: Marathon, a review by DJ DoenaDisc 3 Deathwalker Synopsis: Na'Toth attacks a women who just left a space ships and declares that she is Deathwalker, a Dilgar war criminal. But that is impossible, even if she is still alive she would be much older than that woman. Except of course she had found the fountain of youth. My opinion: Great episode. Asks a lot of valid questions, e.g. how much are you willing to pay and what to sacrifice to become immortal. (click to show/hide) Quote of the episode: Kosh: "Thuth is a three-edged sword." Believers Synopsis: Two aliens bring their sick child to the infirmary. But to heal their son Dr. Franklin has to resolve to surgery. But the parents believe system does not allow the opening of the body because the soul would leave the body. My opinion: Great conflict between science and religion. Who is right and who is authorized to make such a decision? Quote of the episode: Kosh: "The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote." Survivors Synopsis: Earth Alliance president Santiago plans a visit to Babylon 5. But the station is shaken by bomb explosions and a presidential team takes over the security department while Garibaldi is supected to be an assassin. My opninion: We get a glimpse into Garibaldis history on Mars (Garibaldi, like Sinclair, was born on Mars) and his drinking problems back then. Good episode about revenge and paranoia. By Any Means Necessary Synopsis: Overworked and underpaid the dock workers of Babylon 5 go on strike after some of them have been killed and hurt because of errors due to the stress. But the Earth government threatens to break the strike with force, if necessary. Meanwhile G'kar is trying to get hold onto a G'Quan Eth flower for a religious ritual and the only one having one on B5 is - Londo Mollari. My opninion: Good episode. Showed that in the B5 universe some things haven't changed at all throughout the centuries. And personally I think episodes like this make the show much more realistic than the Happy World of Star Trek. I also loved the resolution of Sinclair for both problems (strike / G'Quan Eth).
