My Brother The Pig, a review by KinkyCyborg

My Brother The Pig

Title:My Brother The Pig
Year: 1999
Director: Erik Fleming
Rating: PG
Length: 92 Min.
Video: Full Frame 1.33:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo
Subtitles:

Stars:
Nick Fuoco
Scarlett Johansson
Judge Reinhold
Romy Windsor [Romy Walthall]
Eva Mendes [Eva Mendez]

Plot:
Being a teen is tough enough for Kathy Cauldwell (Scarlett Johansson) without having to be the target of her little brother George's constant practical jokes. But life really gets crazy when Dad (Judge Reinhold) and Mom leave for France and George is magically transformed into a pig via some ancient rocks belonging to their nanny Matilda (Eva Mendes). Only Matilda's Mexican Grandmother's voodoo can break the spell, and Kathy, Matilda, George the Pig, and George's friend Freud (Alex D. Linz) take off on a madcap adventure south of the border to find her. But things go from bad to worse when George is pignapped by the local butcher. Now, the race is on for the group to save George from becoming bacon, turn him back into a boy, and get back home before their unsuspecting parents return. "My Brother The Pig" is a funny and heart-warming tale for the whole family.

My Thoughts:

Adequate family fare that will work for it's intended audience, kids in the 5-12 year old range. Personally I found it a bit boring and my mind kept wandering. A brat of a younger brother gets turned into a pig and the siblings plus the nanny must turn him back before the parents come home from France.  ??? Ho hum... The most eye catching feature of this film is a younger Eva Mendes looking as sexy as sexy can be.  ;) A cute Scarlett Johansson, 16 years old at the time, already shows us the beauty she will become but man did I find her snotty teenage character annoying. Judge Reinhold makes an appearance as well, goofy looking and clueless as usual.

I'll likely throw this on again for my daughter to watch but once is enough for me.

Bay of Blood, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: Bay of Blood (1971)

Genre: Horror
Director: Mario Bava (Black Sunday)
Rating: Unrated
Length: 1h24
Video: Widescreen
Audio: English
Subtitles: No Subtitles

Stars:
Claudine Auger (Thunderball)
Luigi Pistilli (For a Few Dollars More)
Claudio Camaso (Vengeance)
Anna Maria Rosati (Silvia e l'amore)
Chris Avram (L'Ossessa)

Plot:
An elderly heiress is killed by her husband who wants control of her fortunes. What ensues is an all-out murder spree as relatives and friends attempt to reduce the inheritance playing field, complicated by some teenagers who decide to camp out in a dilapidated building on the estate.

My Thoughts:
We continue with the review of the films countain in the second Mario Bava Boxset released by Anchor Bay. I will not repeat what I've already said, but I really recommand to everyone interested in italian cinema to take a look at Bava's works.

This one start like the usual Giallo by a mysterious murder at the beginning (a very imaginative one), but the murderer is immediatly reveals. Since this is not usual we know that something isn't right and not long after the murderer got a taste of his own medicine. We are not on a Giallo ride, but we are in for one of the first slasher movie (if you have seen a lot of them, you will see where they stole their idea). As usual with the Italian movie we have an international cast, the foreigner here is Claudine Auger a beautifull French actress (Miss France 1958). The movie was filmed in italian and in english so no dubbing this time, but the english dialogue doesn't sound natural (I would have prefer to watch the Italian version subtitle). As usual with Bava the cinematography is excellent (many visuals hint and one of the best camera effect that I've seen : four fast zoom in and a fast zoom out after). The supporting cast is good too : particullary Leopoldo Trieste and Laura Betti. The special effect are well done.

Another strong recommandation and a movie that I suggest to you Pete since this one is really in your taste range.

Grey's Anatomy Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Grey's Anatomy Marathon
Season 2:

Life gets even more intense for the doctors and interns of Seattle Grace Hospital in year two as Meredith and Derek's relationship goes from odd to downright insane with the arrival of Derek's wife, and Alex lets his Izzie obsession out of the bag.

Main Cast:
Ellen Pompeo as Dr. Meredith Grey
Sandra Oh as Dr. Cristina Yang
Katherine Heigl as Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens
Justin Chambers as Dr. Alex Karev
T. R. Knight as Dr. George O'Malley
Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey
James Pickens, Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber
Isaiah Washington as Dr. Preston Burke
Patrick Dempsey as Dr. Derek Shepherd
Kate Walsh as Dr. Angela Sheperd

1. Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

My Thoughts:
While this is a good episode... I was expecting more from the first episode of the season. The main case they had to work on was of the bartender at the bar across the street from the hospital. So they make a big deal out of it and how everyone there knows him and is worried for him. Unfortunately we never see much of this character in previous episodes so it is hard to care about him the way they expect us to. But I blame the fact that season 1 only had 9 episodes to work with.

My Rating:

2. Enough is Enough
Predictably, tension mounts between Meredith and Addison, which becomes odd when Meredith finds herself warming to the surgeon. While all the interns work to save an injured family, the truth is revealed as to why Addison and Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd divorced.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this one. A teen boy has the hard decision on whether or not to save his abusive father... and I must say I like the decision he came up with. Then there was the case where some guy got off on swallowing doll heads.

My Rating:

3. Make Me Lose Control
Cristina and Meredith wrestle with whether to tell Dr. Preston Burke that Cristina is carrying his child while Dr. Alex Karev and Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens start to catch each other's attention. Meredith's mother becomes a patient, with George put in charge of her care.

My Thoughts:
A very interesting...and enjoyable episode. Secrets are revealed...and new friendships starts to bloom. They have a patient that can not control her blushing so she has an operation to fix it even though there is some pretty big possible complications and side effects.

My Rating:

4. Deny Deny Deny
Cristina, unhappy with being on the sidelines, re-exhausts herself in an effort to prove she's worthy of being a doctor. To make matters worse, Cristina's mother comes to stay with her to help her recuperate. The arrival of Dr. Ellis Gray sends Seattle Grace spinning.

My Thoughts:
This is a fun episode. While Cristina makes for a very good doctor... she is not very good at being a patient. She just could not sit back and relax and heal. And I definitely got a kick out of Meredith's mother, who is patient with  alzheimer's, keeps getting out of her room reliving her days as a surgeon.

My Rating:

5. Bring the Rain
Derek and Meredith work to convince a devoutly religious man that his daughter needs a life-saving procedure while Meredith makes a shocking discovery about her mother's past and George and Alex find themselves trapped with a patient who needs emergency surgery.

My Thoughts:
Good episode. Dr. Grey and Dr. Sheperd must find a shaman before they can treat a patient. And 2 of the interns gets trapped in an elevator with a police officer that was shot in the chest...giving them no choice but to operate right there in the elevator. Jimmy... I thought of you while watching this episode... There was a guy in this episode in chronic pain but alergic to all pain medication... so what does he do? He watches porn 24/7. Supposedly the porn releases indorphans that makes the pain more managable. Could you imagine having a medical excuse meaning you had to pretty much always have porn on no matter where you were or who was around. Your vacations to your mother's house would really be interesting, huh? :P
