The Spirit, a review by Rich

The Spirit

Above shadowy, crime-infested streets a masked avenger watches. Denny Colt (Gabriel Macht) was once Central City's finest cop until a gangster's bullet ended his life. Now Fate has brought him back from the beyond as The Spirit, a street-hardened hero who faces off against seductive foes like the voluptuous Sand Saref (Eva Mendes) or the alluring Silken Floss (Scarlett Johansson) in this graphic action-thriller.

Once you get past the wow factor of stunning cinematography, slick design, delightful backdrops and gorgeous cast, the storyline is very flat and hollow, and overall the film tails away into a forgetful mess.
This lacks the substance of Sin City and 300, and clearly Miller directing alone has cost the movie in lack of characterisation, acting direction, and sadly creates a feeling of blandness.
I'd seriously recommend not buying this disappointing dvd.

The Lion King, a review by snowcat

Simbas Reaction when he sees the Stamped heading towards him, Simbas initial look of shock / horror as he believes he caused the stampede. I Previously mentioned the music, but the urgency of it makes the scene all the more dramatic, the music cuts as the stampede is not in sight (When Scar tells Mufassa what's going on.)

Mufasa look of realisation as he realises his son is in trouble, he freezes, tells Simba to hold on but eventually rushes to his rescue. We see Mufasa rush into the stampede to rescue Simba, first we see Simba ly through the air caught by Mufasa who is hit by a Wilderbeast, knocking Simba flying from his mouth. to reinforce the strength of the wilderbeast as Mufasa catches back up to Simba and jumps, a wilder beast is hit by another and flys forward towards the camera.

Simba anxiously looks on as his dad i knowhere to be seen, finally Mufasa starts to climb the rock and Simba runs to the top to great him. As Mufasa gets to the top he begs Scar to help him. Scar grabs his paws looks him fiercely in the eyes and says "Long live the King" and throws Mufasa from the rock face.

As Mufasa falls, we hear Simbas blood shattering cry, and its then that audience realises Mufasa will not survive this scene.

As the dust settles, Simba finds his dad, intially trying to wake him telling him they need to go home Simba eventually realises his dad is not going to wake up and screams for help.

Currently I am reading the manga series as it comes out in the US.
Of course I was interested to see the anime adaption. So far it looks good. I have heard that the first season is great, but the general opinion on the second season is not so good. I am curious to see the rest, so I will probably finish off this set before continuing with this marathon.
