The Night Flier, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: The Night Flier Year: 1997 Director: Mark Pavia Rating: R Length: 96 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital 5.1 Subtitles: English, French, Spanish Stars: Miguel Ferrer as Richard Dees Julie Entwisle as Katherine Blair Dan Monahan as Merton Morrison Michael H. Moss as Dwight Renfield John Bennes as Ezra Hannon Plot:Extras: Scene Access Trailers Production Notes My Thoughts: Stephen King's take on a vampire story. Being a vampire movie alone gives it a good chance I will enjoy it... and I definitely did. But it is definitely not the best vampire movie I ever seen. Like It did seem a bit weird... the idea of a vampire flying around in an airplane everywhere he goes. There was a couple things did I liked about this movie though... they way they made Dwight Renfield (the vampire) look... as well as the effect the vampire's blood had when he effected the Richard Dees with it. I really liked the use of Black and White in that scene. It really enhanced the spookiness of the scene. There is a couple small extras on this release... I would have liked to seen something more substantial though. This movie did have some decent bloody effects a well. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: Vampires on February 5th, 2010) To Catch a Thief, a review by AchimMOVIE / DVD INFO: Title: To Catch a Thief Year: 1955 Director: Alfred Hitchcock Rating: NR Length: 106 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Surround, English: Dolby Digital Mono, French: Dolby Digital Mono, Commentary: Dolby Digital Stereo Subtitles: English Stars: Cary Grant Grace Kelly Jessie Royce Landis John Williams (1903) Charles Vanel Plot:Extras: Scene Access Audio Commentary Trailers Featurettes Closed Captioned My Thoughts: Hmmm, a bit (just a bit though) disappointed here. I remembered this way more exciting than it was, from when I saw it numerous time as a kid. Well, if The Trouble With Harry was Hitchcock's take on a comedy then To Catch a Thief is his attempt at a romance. There is hardly any suspense, really, except for the exciting roof top scene at the end. Heck, technically this is even a "whodunnit", something Hitchcock normally despised (at least didn't care about) and avoided to do. He could have improved it a bit by fleshing out some of the other suspects a little better.Disappointed aside, this is a very good film (just not what you'd expect from the master of suspense...). The dialog is extremely good, delivered with excellent timing, especially by the three lead cast members. The first half is also very comedy-like, where Cary Grant even gets to do his schtick a few times. The characters are all quite well motivated and the romance developed quite nicely and even for today's standards considerably believable. Of course Cary Grant was actually much too old to be the love interest (yes, you read that right), but he sure was still extremely handsome. The fireworks scene was much better in my memory than what I saw on screen. The One Where Ross Finds Out--While on a date (and somewhat inebriated), Rachel calls Ross on the phone and leaves him a message revealing her feelings for him. Ross gets the message the next day while with Rachel. Meanwhile, an out-of-work Monica helps work Chandler out so he can drop a few pounds. One nice thing about the "Friends" DVDs is they add in some footage that wasn't there in original airings so, not only do you get footage cut for cable or syndicated airings but you get footage you never saw to begin with. Seeing this episode, for instance, we see Ross and Julia at a pet store about to buy a cat...I can't recall if this scene was in the original airings or is one of those bonus bits thrown in for the DVDs. The One With The List--Ross can't seem to choose between Julie and Rachel, so Chandler urges him to make a list (on Chandler's computer) listing the pros and cons of both. When Rachel discovers this, naturally all hell breaks loose. Monica, still looking for work, agrees to a test with a firm, making dessert treats with a new chocolate substitute called Mockalate. "This is what evil must taste like!", exclaims Phoebe after trying one of her treats. The One With Phoebe's Dad--During the Christmas season, Phoebe learns where her dad (who abandoned her mother and her years ago) now lives and takes off for there in her grandmother's taxi, accompanied by Joey and Chandler. Special bonus in this episode...Gunther speaks for the first time! Okay, he only says about a word and a half but I'm confident he'll be speaking full sentences by the end of the season! Meanwhile, Monica and Rachel host a Christmas party, despite the fact that Ross has broken off the knob on their radiator and now it can't be shut off, making the room about 90 degrees...
