City Rats, a review by Rich

City Rats

Danny Dyer (The Business, Football Factory) and Tamer Hassan (The Business, Layer Cake) return to explosive form in the year's most highly anticipated Brit-flick.
Welcome to the world of the City Rats where eight lives collide in a Pulp Fiction style blend that reveals London's true dark and twisted underbelly.
Dyer and Hassan give career-best performances in their first collaboration since British gangster film The Business.

Very low budget film, and sadly poor quality given the cast involved.
It is very slow, glimpsing a dark and depressing underbelly in London society, with the expected coarse language drinks and drugs associated with Danny Dyer.
There is a sense of intrigue to last the course as the characters lives ponderously intertwine together, but unlike Crash it wasn't worth waitng for.
Overly emotional and self-absorbent, possibly the only high point was a wonderful performance by Susan Lynch as the crippled whore.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, a review by Dragonfire

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton join forces again in a big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning musical thiller.

My Thoughts

I love this movie.  I saw it in the theater, have the soundtrack, and a book about the making fo the movie.  I decided last year to watch it along with Sleep Hollow every year around Halloween.  I know some people will dismiss the movie because it is a musical, but it truly works as a horror movie.   A man wants revenge and starts killing people.  The bodies are then put in meat pies and sold to the public.  Many of the murders committed by Sweeney are shown.  Blood is everywhere, gushing and spraying all over the place in a very exaggerated way.  The movie is very twisted, which is a bit part of what I like about it.  The movie will be too violent and twisted for some people.  The characters are interesting and conflicted and the cast is wonderful.  Johnny Depp does wonderful in the part, conveying a lot through his expressions.  He and the rest of the cast do well with the singing too.  Alan Rickman is wonderful as yet another villain.  He is so good at playing nasty, evil characters.

I did get a review posted on Epinions after I saw it in the theater.

My Thoughts:
This is a series I never watched before. But figured it lasted 10 years... there must be something good about it. I went into this one curious but with low expectations. Plus I was looking forward to seeing Shannen Doherty in an early role. Who I became a fan of from watching her in Charmed. I was kinda surprised... I could barely recognize her... took me a few minutes to realize it was her. The show is better then I was expecting and I can see myself collecting the series. But it isn't one I would be super-anxious to complete. Just a good, solid series. Of course this is going only by the pilot episode... my opinion could easily change... either way... with a few more episodes.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5
