Public Enemies, a review by Rich

Title: Public Enemies

Runtime:134
Certificate:15
Year:2009
Genres:Drama, Action

Plot:My Review:
My son fell asleep after an hour of this, I struggled through but it was excruciantly and unnecessarily long and drawn out, difficult to follow, full of mumbling poor accents, and generally disappointing after we built ourselves up to an expectant high of viewing a supposedly good movie.
The characterisations were totally underdeveloped, the action felt like it was plonked in to wake the viewer up, the plot noticeable by its absence, and the direction blatantly pointless. The 30's feel of the film, complete with the depression era, had obviously taken a lot of thought and was visually successful, but this appeal waned when you realised the film lacked any substance. And the music they used throughout the film, some kind of ill-fitting rock - why??
Christian Bale was simply dreadful, his accent made him nigh on impossible to understand, Depp was uncharacterisically hollow in passion for the role, the only actors who walked away with any justifiable plaudits would be Marion Cotillard as Dillingers girl, and John Hoogenacker as one of the drafted in specialist agents.
Give me the untouchables over this any day.

Doctor Zhivago, a review by Jon

Doctor Zhivago
4 out of 5

A peerless filmmaker of substance and scale, David Lean directs Boris Pasternak's tumultuous tale of Russia divided by war and hearts torn by love. Epic images abound: revolution in the streets, an infantry charge into no-man's-land, the train ride to the Urals, an icebound dacha. Omar Sharif plays the title role, Julie Christie is his haunting, long-time love Lara and both are caught up in the tidal wave of history. Hauntingly scored by Maurice Jarre (who earned one of the film's five Academy Awards**) and full of indelible performances, Doctor Zhivago is a moviemaking wonder.

Doctor Zhivago has all the makings of a perfect David Lean epic. A broad, historical story, sweeping vistas, stunning photography, wonderful characters and a Maurice Jarre score as stirring as any. While it does have all of those, there is something not quite right and it is over-shadowed by Lawrence Of Arabia and The Bridge On The River Kwai

Psych: The Complete Fifth Season, a review by addicted2dvd

Psych: The Complete Fifth Season (2010/United States)

Stars:Extras:
  • Audio Commentary
  • Bonus Trailers
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Featurettes
  • Outtakes/Bloopers
  • Never-before-seen extended version of "Dual Spires"

My Thoughts:
Last night I finished the fifth season of this series. I am still enjoying it quite a bit. Lots of good laughs and some interesting cases as well. This season also has a nice selection of extras as usual. And this season they dropped the montages. Which I have no problem with at all... as that is one extra I never seen the sense in. I mean all it is... is clips from different episodes in the season within a certain theme. I just watched the entire season... why do I now want to watch clips from the episodes I just watched?

Now that I am all caught up with the DVDs I need to see about watching the current season episodes that has aired... this way I can start watching this show as it airs.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5
