Shoot First, Die Later, a review by GSyren

OverviewDesperately sought after and never before released worldwide Rarovideo is proud to be releasing the tough, exciting, dramatically potent, well acted and action packed film, Shoot first, Die Later which is known as one of the most impressive Italian crime/police movies ever made. Luc Merenda gives the performance of his career as a highly regarded police detective who is taking syndicate money in exchange for departmental favors. His father, a simple man, also works for the department but on a lower rung; he isn't jealous of his son, but rather proud of him, little knowing that he's a crooked cop. A series of events leads the young detective to ask his father for a favor (he wants a certain police report that is desired by the syndicate) and it doesn't take long for the detective's father to realize his son is on the take... which leads to numerous complications.
My thoughtsI'm glad they didn't translate the original title of this film literally into English, because it contains a spoiler. But since the overview already let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, I guess I can reveal it. translates into The cop is rotten.

The film starts out looking like a standard Italian crime movie, with a robbery and a pretty exciting car chase. But eventually it turns into more of a drama when we realize that the good cop isn't so good, and things start to get ugly. It's quite a bit more bleak than the usual spaghetti crime thriller, but despite that - or perhaps because of that - it's a pretty good movie.

Ideally you should watch this in Italian (with English subtitles, if needed), but the English dubbing is for the most part quite good. The subtitles seem to be transcribed from the English dialog rather than a translation of the Italian dialog. Since I don't speak Italian I can't tell how much they differ.

This is my only movie directed by Fernando Di Leo, but it makes me want to check out what else he has done.
My rating3,5 out of 5

Premonition, a review by addicted2dvd

Premonition
Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock) has a beautiful house, a loving husband and two adorable daughters. Her life is perfect, until the day she gets the devastating news that her husband Jim (Julian McMahon) has died in a car accident. When she wakes up the next morning to find him alive and well, she assumes it was all a dream. Or was it? Suddenly, her perfect life is turned upside down as she begins a desperate scramble to save her family and uncover the truth. Racing against time and fate, Linda will stop at nothing to discover the true meanings of reality and destiny.

My Thoughts:
This is the second time I watched this movie since I bought a couple years ago. The first time I saw this movie I was less then thrilled with it... and found it more confusing then anything. This time around I found I enjoyed it much more then the first time. It is definitely a movie that demands your full attention. It has a very interesting premise so it is not hard at all to give it the attention it must have. Sandra Bullock was wonderful as always. I personally could have done without Julian McMahon as her husband. Don't get me wrong... he did do a fine job... but there is just something about that actor I just do not like. I don't know what it is... but no matter what I see him in.. his presence somewhat aggravates me. I know... makes no sense... but it is the way I feel about him.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Smallville Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 7: Disc 4

13. HERO
Look who's back. Clark is thrilled to catch up with Pete Ross, his old school pal. And he's dismayed to discover Pete has acquired a meteor power that could leave him vulnerable to exploiters like Lex.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was good to see Pete Ross back... been too long without him. I still hope to see him on the show again before it is all over. One thing I have to say about this episode. I don't think they could be more obvious about product placing then they are here. Talk about going overboard.

My Rating:

14. TRAVELER

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode. We now have Supergirl/Kara back. It also makes you wonder if Lionel really is good now or not.

My Rating:

15. VERITAS

My Thoughts:
This is a pretty good episode. Though not as good as the last few. For some reason this one just didn't really hold my interest as much.

My Rating:

16. DESCENT
Lex is driven to discover the secret of Veritas, even if it sets his life on a path of no redemption...even if it means the murder of someone near to him. Another killer also surfaces, a mysterious figure who may be determined to protect Clark's secret.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this one. It ios time to say goodbye to one of the main cast. Shame... I always liked the character whether he was playing a good guy, a bad guy or if you just weren't sure.
