The Villain, a review by Rogmeister

The Villain

The cowboy Handsome Stranger (Arnold Schwarzenegger) will escort miss Charming Jones (Ann-Margret) to get a large sum of money from her father, Parody Jones. But the rich Avery Jones wants to lay his hands on the money and hires an old cowboy, Cactus Jack (Kirk Douglas), to rob them when they ride back from her father. However, Cactus Jack is not very good at robbing people.

The DVD:
Video: 1:33.1 Full Screen
Running Time: 89m
Extras: Trailers--Not for this movie but for 3 other films including The Quick & The Dead and Cat Ballou.

My Thoughts:
First off, Kirk Douglas doesn't play a cowboy but is an outlaw from the very start...and his age is never mentioned in the movie.  I really wanted to like this movie but after a nice overhead opening showing off the majestic Monument Valley, it went downhill from there.  It's just painfully unfunny with jokes telegraphed a mile in advance and not carried off very well.  Great stars like Strother Martin, Paul Lynde and Jack Elam are wasted and even Kirk Douglas & Ann-Margret, pros though they may be, couldn't bring this to life.  The director is Hal Needham...best known as a stuntman and director of Smokey and the Bandit.  This movie may explain why you never hear of him anymore.  If you're looking for a funny comedy-western, avoid this turkey and watch Support Your Local Sheriff, McLintock! or Cat Ballou instead.

Adding insult to injury, the movie is presented in pan & scan format.

Nighthawks, a review by Jimmy

Title : Nighthawks (1981)

Overview
Sylvester Stallone and Rutger Hauer star in this riveting story of suspense and intrigue that starts in London, continues in Paris and reaches its chilling conclusion on the streets of New York.

When Europe's most feared terrorist (Hauer) explosively announces his presence in Manhattan, two elite undercover cops (Stallone and Billy Dee Williams) are assigned to stop him before he strikes again. But the ruthless terrorist has other plans for the city - and the detectives - in this spellbinding, cat-and-mouse thriller.

My Impression
One of the last good movie with Stallone before he became an Hollywood star and doesn't care anymore. Before you ask for me his last good movie is First Blood so I don't care for his career since 1982. The problem with this one is the studio interference in the production, this is really evident with the end if you look at Rutger Hauer. Good performance by Stallone, Hauer (always like him, he his a perfect cast choice to play a German terrorist. Ok he's Dutch but the accent doesn't look different to me) and Williams. It was great too to see Joe Spinell and Jamie Gillis in supporting role. Don't get to exited for Lindsay Wagner she really doesn't have a lot of screen time. Good action movie from a time when they were able to do it (no mtv editing, no annoying loud music, no cgi, ...).

The movie price is really low, so it's not a big risk to take.

Tom's Random Star Trek Reviews, a review by Tom

VOY 7.18 Q2
Writer: Robert Doherty (Screenwriter), Kenneth Biller (Original Material By)
Director: LeVar Burton
Cast: Kate Mulgrew (Captain Kathryn Janeway), Robert Beltran (Chakotay), Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres), Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris), Ethan Phillips (Neelix), Robert Picardo (The Doctor), Tim Russ (Tuvok), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), Garrett Wang (Harry Kim), Keegan DeLancie (Q2), Manu Intiraymi (Icheb), Michael Kagan (Alien Commander), Lorna Raver (Q-Judge), John DeLancie (Q), Anthony Holiday (Nausicaan), Scott Davidson (Bolian), Majel Barrett (Computer Voice (voice))

I finally came around finishing off my Q marathon. What a boring last ever Q episode. Instead of having a big Q story, we have a stupid "Q's son has to learn a lesson" episode, which brings nothing we haven't seen a hundred times before to the table. Best part was when Q junior removed Neelix's mouth and voice
