Plot:
Just Visiting is one very funny fish-out-of-water comedy the whole family will enjoy. It's 12th century France and the Count Thibault of Malfete (Jean Reno, 'Mission: Impossible') finds his beautiful bride-to-be (Christina Applegate, TV's 'Jesse') done in by malevolent magic. So he and his loyal servant André (Christian Clavier, 'Les Visiteurs') request the help of a local wizard to right the wrong and bring his beloved back. But the wizardry goes awry and the pair is transported to 21st century Chicago where they meet Thibault's descendant Julia (Applegate) and her scheming fiancé. With their timeless values of courage, they wreak hilarious havoc as they foil diabolical plots in modern-day Chicago and try to find their way back home.

My Thoughts:
This is a US remake of the French movie 'Les Visiteur'. It is more of a screwball comedy than the original movie.
Sadly, Jean Reno's character comes across more as a joke than as the excellently played knight of the original movie.

This movie is a yet another in a long line of Hollywood having to remake a movie for the American audience.
The German habit of dubbing movies is often critized by some citing that other European countries like the Netherlands and Scandinavian countries do not have the need to do it, why then Germany? Are the German people too lazy to read subtitles? (It is just that the dubbing industry in Germany has become too big and the people are acustomed to have the movie dubbed).
But on the other hand, when I look at the US: What do they do? Do they dub? Do they subtitling? No, they remake the whole movie instead :hysterical:

On a side note: Jean Remo looked a little like a colleague of mine in this movie

My Thoughts:
I decided to give this movie a second chance today. The first time I watched it I was less then impressed. Matter of fact I only rated it a 2.5 out of a possible 5 rating. Which says to me a fairly average movie... not to expect much from it. I last watched it 2 years ago. So I thought it would be a good time to give it another go. After watching it... I was able to get into the story a little more then last time. But this show still didn't impress me a whole lot. I really can't see where this whole Twilight-mania is coming from. But then again... I guess I am really not the target audience either. There was some things I liked about the movie... and some things I didn't. I really enjoyed the side story of the killings and the protection of Bella. Even though it is only slight... it put a horror aspect into the show for me. I absolutely hated the aspect of how they changed the effects of sunlight on vampires, though that did explain away how they could be out in the day time. I did kind of like the fact that there could be good and bad vampires... just like in the human race. I didn't care much for the narration of Bella's in portions of the movie. The idea of the narration wasn't bad.... but the flowery romance novel like writing of it put me off. Though as I said... the second viewing did help me to enjoy it a little more then I did the first time. But it is still not what I would call a great movie.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

"Friends" Marathon, a review by Rogmeister

Finishing up season one of Friends...

The One Where The Monkey Gets Away--Rachel petsits Ross' monkey Marcel but leaves the apartment door open and the monkey escapes.  This episode has some good moments including an appearance by goofy neighbor Mr. Heckles.

The One With The Evil Orthodontist--Rachel has an encounter with her ex-fiance Barry.  Jennifer Grey guests as Mindy, Rachel's one-time friend who is now Barry's fiance.

The One With Fake Monica--Monica's credit card is stolen and she then realizes that the "fake" Monica is doing everything she wishes she could...so she finds her and becomes friends with her.  This is okay, nothing special in my opinion.

One of these episodes (I forget which one now) has Phoebe going to work temporarily for Chandler where she reveals no one at the office likes Chandler and says "They even do you" and we are introduced to Chandler's unique way of speaking..."Could that report be any later?"  :P
The One With The Ick Factor--Monica discovers that the guy she's dating, who she thought was a senior in college really is a senior...in high school.  Another okay episode which ends with the impending birth of Ross and Carol's son.

The One With The Birth--Yes, it's time for a birth...always a hit on sitcoms.  Things get a bit complicated when Ross, Phoebe and Susan wind up getting locked in a supply room as Carol is about to give birth.  Guest-stars include Leah Remini as a pregnant woman Joey assists.

The One Where Rachel Finds Out--While Ross is leaving on a trip to China, Chandler lips slip out to Rachel that Ross is in love with her.  This is the season finale and sets the stage for the whole Ross-Rachel situation for seasons to come.  At the end, Rachel is off to the airport to see Ross who is returning from China...not realizing that Ross is not returning alone.
