The Fountain, a review by Jon

The Fountain
4 out of 5

In this epic sci-fi tale, which spans more then a thousand years, cult director Darren Aronofsky explores the age old question "what if you could live forever?" Hugh Jackman stars as Tom Creo a man torn between three parallel lives faced with the ultimate struggle - to save the life of Izzi (Rachel Weisz) the woman he loves. Merging fantasy and science fiction in a unique way, Darren Aronofsky's visually ground breaking story addresses mans eternal struggle with mortality.

The FountainA Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It is possible to find similarities in the central themes of both films (both use fantasy as a metaphor), but The Fountain2001: A Space Odyssey territory to some extent, but because there is such a defined story at the heart of The FountainThe Fountain. Should you be so inclined, it is a remarkable journey and the commitment of all involved makes it a very watchable one.

My Thoughts:
This one isn't as known as it should be if you ask me. At first it looks like your regular serial killer movie, but it isn't. In fact this is a more a story about how as a society we create killer, not that this Capt. Howdy guy isn't a sick fuck to begin with but... The story take a different turn at the second act when he is liberated from the psychiatric hospital where he was treated after three years completly cure and ready to start a new life. The guy isn't the same anymore in fact he is some kind of frail wimp who wouldn't even scare my eighty four years old grandmother. Not long after his liberation he is attacked and left for dead by a crowd, this is why I say that we as society we create the monsters. Sure his bad side came back but is he really the one to blame? You got a surprising good performance in a dual role from Dee Snyder who also wrote the script for this film, I can't say the same for most of the others since the performance are not really nuanced (you are bad or you are good, no middle point) but Kevin Gage overact less than usual. The effects are really well done and you feel the suffering (see you don't need CGI to look good, a good effects guy can works miracle).

Anyway enough talking (or writing) we have here an underated gem who deserves to be seen.

Charmed Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Disc 2:

4. Love's A Witch
Paige becomes immersed in an ongoing feud between two magical families. the Montanas and the Callaways, and attempts to bring about a truce.

My Thoughts:
This is a pretty good episode. Here we meet a guy that Paige becomes interested in as she tries to stop two family of witches from feuding.

5. My Three Witches
The Charmed Ones learn a valuable lesson in magical priorities when a Whithlighter and a demon cast them into an alternate reality.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode. The Charmed Ones get sucked into a world where their own desires comes true... but takes a tragic turn for the worse... and must find a way out.

6. Soul Survivor
Paige discovers that her new boss has sold his soul to the demon Zahn. Despite her sisters' pleas, Paige makes the ultimate sacrifice to save her boss.

My Thoughts:
This is a good... but standard episode. The storyline of Paige wanting to hand some of these magical problems on her own at times is starting to get a little old. I understand where it is coming from... where she was raised as an only child... but it kinda goes against what Charmed has ever been.

7. Sword And The City
A bevy of magical beings arrive at the manor after the Charmed Ones agree to help the Lady of the Lake protect Excalibur, the legendary Sword in the Stone.

My Thoughts:
A good episode... but a bit on the silly side. Not that it was done in a silly way... as it was done quite seriously. I just found the whole storyline a bit silly. Was more of a stand alone episode... not one that served much purpose for future episodes.
