Planet Terror, a review by addicted2dvd

Planet Terror
'DIRECTOR ROBERT RODRIGUEZ (SIN CITY) IS BACK' with a rip-roaring, zombie-infested rollercoaster of a movie that "sure as hell keeps you hanging on for the ride" (Peter Travers, 'Rolling Stone'). Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, Bruce Willis, and an all-star cast fight for their lives in the ultimate showdown between an army of flesh-eating mutants and a motley group of rag-tag survivors. Featuring one of the most memorable screen heroines ever and the now legendary mock 'Machete' trailer, "'Planet Terror' is a total blast - funny, gloriously gory and over the top" (Christy Lemire, 'Associated Press').

My Thoughts:
Hmmm... what did I think of this movie? I am writing this right after I turned it off so really had no time to really reflect on it. Parts of me really enjoyed it for what it is.. but yet other parts of me felt a bit let down. Well... I love Rose McGowan... I have been a fan every since she joined the TV Series Charmed... so I really thought she was great. I think my main problem with the movie was the style it was made in.. I don't like the way they went out of their way to make a new movie look like it was on really old and damaged film stock. That is just something that makes no sense to me what so ever. Another thing I had a problem with... is some of the stuff was just so far fetched out there that it did take away from the movie for me a little. But as I said... over-all I did enjoy it to. I thought it was better then the other Grindhouse movie "Death Proof".

The gore is really up there on this movie.... so if you enjoy gore in your horror... you should enjoy all that is in this one. There was even some gross stuff in this one I really wish I didn't see! (those that seen the movie... think to when Rose McGowan's character was going to get raped at the old military base)  :yucky:

Of course this has a lot of extras with it. It is a 2-Disc special edition after all. But I really didn't look at the extras for it yet. I did flip though some of the Poster Art Gallery... but that is about it.

I can see myself watching this movie again... but  just when a certain mood hits.

Angel and the Badman, a review by Rogmeister

Angel and the Badman  (1947)  Black & White   100 minutes
Producer: John Wayne
Written and Directed by James Edward Grant
Cast: John Wayne, Gail Russell, Harry Carey, Bruce Cabot, Irene Rich, Paul Hurst

A gunslinger named Quirt Evans (John Wayne) is injured and taken in by a Quaker family.  Slowly, their ways and the growing love between him and their daughter begins to change him.

This was the first movie produced by John Wayne, who also starred in the film and the only film directed by James Edward Grant whose real trade was screenwriting.  Though Grant is certainly no Howard Hawks or John Ford, this film is surprisingly effective and holds up well today.  As with many of John Ford's films, much of the film was shot on Monument Valley and used many familiar character actors including Harry Carey Sr. and Bruce Cabot.  Though not one of John Wayne's most famous films, this is one I really like and I enjoy coming back to it again and again.  As with many Republic pictures, this film has fallen into the land of public domain and there are many copies out there, some good and some bad as far as picture and sound quality goes.  My copy is from The Roan Group, a company that had a great reputation regarding quality product...at least until they were bought out by Troma.  If you can find a Roan copy, that's the one to go for.  Of course, as with many older films, there are no real extras to speak of, just some text about the background of the film and a screen showing the main players in the film.

Smallville Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

SEASON 7: Disc 1

EPISODE 1: BIZARRO
A flood of excitement: Lois, Chloe and Lex are in peril after Reeves Dam breaks. The Phantom Zone escapee who absorbed Clark's DNA must be stopped. But how? MARTINA MANHUNTER has an idea.

My Thoughts:
This was a good episode. I enjoyed it quite a bit. At first I didn't think I would... but I do like how they decided to do Bizzaro.

My Rating:

EPISODE 2: KARA
Blonde. Beautiful. Bad attitude. Kara may have some catching up to do after she stops trying to clobber Clark into the next millennium. After all, they're from the same Kryptonian family.

Also: Lex finds Lana.

My Thoughts:
Another episode I enjoyed a lot. I really liked the way Supergirl (Kara) came out on the series. I also enjoyed the explanation of what happened with Lana.

My Rating:

EPISODE 3: FIERCE

My Thoughts:
Another fun episode. I must say... Kara looked great in that bikini! And I liked the story of the beauty contestant meteor freaks going after the map in the time capsule.

My Rating:

EPISODE 4: CURE
Got a meteor-rock problem? A neurosurgeon claims he can return meteor-infected people to normality. Lana hides a $10-million secret and Chloe and Jimmy face a rift in their togetherness.

My Thoughts:
This is a pretty cool episode. I really enjoyed it. It was cool to see Dean Caine (who played Superman on Lois and Clark) guest star on the show.

My Rating:
